So then..... drilled 12mm x 35mm deep.

Drilled at an off angle (to vertical through both 8s) so the 🎱 is more visible when in 5th [stick tilted forwards].

Rammed onto shaft, well tight 😮!!

I like the feel, the 'aged ivory' discolouration of the white is very mellow 🙄...

Nipped over to Washington to collect these Ferodo pads... the guy selling them was really cool, fellow rwd Skoda enthusiast....

He liked the GM wheels treatment...

Quick glimpse of sun..... ToolsOot 🛠️

Those neat mudflaps are now on,  and new blades/Matt paint to smarten up arms 😎

The tyres fitted on these Corsa rims are proud about an inch, at the wing edge/sill.

Quite manageable but obviously lashing $hite up the wing/door shut area 😕 ... Sorted! 🥳

Planning a trip into 'the dark, dark world' of box sections [sill ends].....

I will take a few snaps 😮

What a beautiful day, today! 😁

So ... Results *partially, are in 😐

18.2 cold water tap running
24.2 ambient (see thermo display)
48.0 hot full cup, direct from kettle boil
85.0 immersed in hot, direct from kettle boil

The area I'm most concerned about is the ability of the sensor to 'sense/register' a high temp (water) through a vessel wall (cup) 😕

I don't know how to discover the 'sensor spec' but they can be got as a 'washer tab' style - to bolt flat faced onto the 'hot' part...

I may just buy one and run an identical set of tests 😉

...... This, for instance, has the sensor in a splodge of resin (not a metal tube!)

IMG_20230908_102328.jpg

Further to the arrival of my 'resin tip' sensor...

Tests are looking good.... 👍

A quick dip in water poured directly from a boiling kettle, into the test vessel [ally milk pan].... Display = 99°

When the tip is taped to the bottom of the ally milk pan & kettle boiling water added = 89° ..... Hmm 🙄

I believe there is no problem with any of this BUT the tip will only accurately display engine/water temp if it is IMMERSED... Next best test (on the car) will be with a copper jacket over the sensor + computer chip grease.

Just done oil change and filter WILL NOT budge 🛠️🙀

I shall go again (ran out of time before needing to go out...) with some grit paper folded inside my webbing strap wrench, for EXXTRA grippz 🤦

OTOH..... having not 'actually' been UNDER at all >> we have a Full Ex inc. CAT [last but one MOT 🤔]. The clutch slave/pipework is mint... still that treacly lacquer brown on the steel pipe & all anodised fittings still shiny with the red and yellow spots of paint that get put on along the production line 😁.

The fog/low lights are minty = no crud/mud and the clippy slide on/off electrical plugs are as new 😁😁.

No gearbox leaks/driveshafts boots ok.

The *easy access to that 🤬🤬 Oil Filter has been facilitated with the 'SavvLighteningProgram'™ aka 'ragg a slot with a pad saw and remove square of tray under filter 👌' ..... Sorted!!

Think I'll take it up to the garage (who did the belt + oil) and ask them to swap it over.... However, if 'Garth' gets the job again I may be in a loop 🤦

.... No! I have folded my hand 😕

My matey garage mechanic will put me on his ramp [07:30 Wed] and 'get manly' with his array of Brutish weaponry... He agreed with me that a Total Commitment Moment (... for me, alone in a back lane!) would have been whacking a screwdriver through it = if it STILL wouldn't budge I'd be F#CKED 🙀

Ahh..... Johnny NoMates, that's me 🙃

Just make sure the new filter is done up by hand and youll need no tools.

I felt very smug loosening my filter by hand before going under and getting oily hands when dropping the oil.

It's the future! My chain strap almost struggled on a friend's Vauxhall though, if we do it again next year it should be easier!

They really need to be mocked up onto the roof..... for a 'reality check' 🙈🙉🙊

Some 'preliminary strategy' has been given consideration, I have a mind to truncate the rear rail foot....

Tail_chopped.jpg

..... as shown 🤔

Both ends are cast alloy, hollow but have webs for the retaining bolts. My plans envisage an alloy plate fixed/screwed to the underside of each foot + 3M super stikkie tape [the plate will be marginally wider than the actual foot profile, so as to maximise sticking effect]

The tubes are removable, either end, and will need some shortening!!

Gloss black 😯

Could you not get away with just shortening the tubes?
