I did appreciate the irony of me saying on this very forum a few days ago about how MG M cars were a joyriders favourite.

At least they didn't manage to actually nick the thing thanks to my top secret security measures.

Anyone got an MG steering wheel and a Metro steering column lying around?

I haz quartic steerin wheel.

As RG says, at least they didn't get it although thats probably not that doesn't make it any less of a PITA.

Rotten bastards. What about a Krooklock/Disklok as a visual deterrent. I use one on the S Type, even though they're virtually impossible to steal.Good luck with the bits, mate.

gutted for you spa, but least its still in your hands, little bastards :(

Usually it has a pretty good krooklock on. You can just see it in the passenger footwell. It appears one of the chaps who works for me dad forgot to put it on over the weekend, as cars were moved about cos the place was closed for 4 days.

Rotten bastards. What about a Krooklock/Disklok as a useful object to smash them repeatedly around the back of their scummy oxygen-wasting head

Fixed that for you. Bastards.

I've a feeling the column is the same as the MGF one. I'm swapping mine over for PAS this weekend so will have the old one doing nothing if they are the same. :)I use a chain and lock the steering wheel tightly to the bar on the bottom of the passenger seat. I doubt they'll be able to get that off.Another deterrant is removing the rear license plate, even going as far as having a reflective vinyl sticker underneath saying 'STOLEN CALL POLICE'. :) Take it off at night time.

good plan that station, bookmarked those metro forums for future reference :P

Yeah in this old Nova I had briefly I used a heavy motorbike chain round the bottom of the seat. Might have to do the same here. I was in such a hurry this morning that the annoyance didn't set in til I got home from work!PS thanks Station, but I'm pretty sure the Metro and MGF columns are different. Ta though.

Are K-series and A-series steering columns the same? Also, I'd prefer to use a disklok as a krooklok can be removed by hacksawing through the rim of the steering wheel.

Another deterrant is removing the rear license plate

This only works in countries (like the USA) where they have a licence plate, although removing the VRM plate might have the same effect

Ok.Don't get me wrong, I'm no purist, but what was nice about this car was that it was so original and unmolested, particularly the interior which is in good nick.To get a correct replacement steering wheel, black leather with red stitching will cost around £140.00 (from mini parts people, so I suspect mini tax).So I will just will probably be getting a standard black vinyl second hand '90s mini one. Thanks you arsehole, for ruining a very original 28 year old car.

Is it the actual Steering column that is foobared ?Or is it the lock mechanism that is connected to the Ignition barrel ?If it is the second one, then i have a complete ignition lock, barrel and key(Which i brought from tim - Thank you)So if this would help (which i am sure it is the same) ... then drop me a Personal Message

My dear old pa recons he can bend the column back to something like straight. Need to have a proper look but I don't think the monkeys got as far as the ignition / wiring luckily and the wheel lock was too tough for them.Just having a rant really.Thank-you though.
