synx508 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Spotted this today, it has an undead look about it. I'm gutted that I was too slow with my camera last week when a Rover P5 3.5 litre in similar "near showroom" condition blasted past us on a roundabout.
trigger Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 My god!, What a shed!, You have redeemed yourself with that snap! It's listed as no previous owners, I wonder if that's the same owner then driving it since 1959?.
VWPowered Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 i too took a pic which didnt come out of one of these... back there next weekend anyway phew
Owain-328i Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 It's listed as no previous owners, I wonder if that's the same owner then driving it since 1959?.That would be truely heroic, and also epic all in one go!

seth Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 That is amazing! I saw the really shiny one that's been for sale a couple of times in recent years at Goodwood this morning. I wondered if it was the only one left on the road. Obviously not!
STUNO Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 surprised its got T&T Who said it had T&T ?And it even has that blue haze at the rear
Richard Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 That is amazing! I saw the really shiny one that's been for sale a couple of times in recent years at Goodwood this morning. I wondered if it was the only one left on the road. Obviously not! There was one locally with its first owner until he died about 5 years ago. I've seen it at a show since- WFS796.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 When I used to live on a shitty council estate just outside Stalybridge about 30 years ago, there was a geezer used to come round flogging eggs out the back of one of these old things. His had a weird numberplate on it, like a T-reg (which would have been about 2 years old at the time).
Minimad5 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 That is truely epic sir I vote stalk the owner, and find out as much info as possible
Skoze Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Wow! That's incredible, was there an equally as decrepit person driving it?Kwality motor
BrianDamaged Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 That is one EPIC spot.I was intrigued by the amount of blue haze round the back...but it IS a stock Standard 2088cc petrol four-banger under the bonnet. The enquiry is complete The vehicle details for 706 EKM are: Date of Liability 01 11 2010 Date of First Registration 01 01 1959 Year of Manufacture 1959 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2088CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour GREEN Vehicle Type Approval They did do a diesel version of the same lump, as well as (if I'm not mistaken) a TVO powered version for use in Ferguson tractors???Edit: I was wrong, it seems the diesel Vanguard was fitted with a 40bhp Perkins 4.98, not the 2.1 Standard...but the Ferguson TEA-20 used the same engine from 1947-1956.
synx508 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Thanks for all the replies with the extra info, I've only recently decided to have the camera ready and it has paid off.The blue haze is probably being amplified by the mode that I had the camera in at the time, I don't remember seeing abnormal levels of smoke.I bet my brain would've remembered smoke even if there wasn't any, such is the mental imagery evoked by that car.The driver looked perhaps late 50s or early 60s but I didn't get a good look, the car was a bit of a distraction.
aled Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 this imp has been in this state for years and does not seem to get any worse, but is still a right state. still gets used as a daily. must be the bastard son of the vanguard.
Rusty Pelican Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Aled , seen the Imp a few times , last year he fitted a better boot lid so its improving , still a complete wreck though , as for the Vanguard , thats pure class
aled Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Aled , seen the Imp a few times , last year he fitted a better boot lid so its improving , still a complete wreck though , as for the Vanguard , thats pure class did see it at national last year, he keeps old newspapers in the engine bay, and i was told that he takes the passenger seat out and sleeps in the car overnight.
joethornton1986 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 that Vanguard is beautiful! i'd love that, would fit in brilliantly with my wrecks!
boobydoo Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Cripes! Imagine walking down a dark country lane late at night and that thing slowly appears out of the mist, a dull glow from the headlights. I'd poo my pants!
Angrydicky Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 WOW, if classic car shows had things like that instead of rows of immaculate stags, they would be worth going to
Mash Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 When I used to live on a shitty council estate just outside Stalybridge about 30 years ago, there was a geezer used to come round flogging eggs out the back of one of these old things. j-j Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Jee, that's something else isn't it? The decrepit yet road legal look is possibly the epitome of shite - that imp is superb too. This is the look I want for a DS, early round lights type with a chalky finish to the paint job and marked, pitted chrome (well in truth it's stainless steel and alu on a DS but it cam be made to look like pitted chrome ), no hubcaps and of course some 'under control visible rust' like the Imp. 100% perfecto mechanicals of course

Looked ace. Well, it might not have been an aerly round light one..
