The only way to save the planet is the extinction of the human race , capitalism and environment issues wont mix , you cant have a growing economy and not produce more CO , China is the biggest worry , give everyone there fridges and new cars and we are all fucked ( nothing againt chinese BTW ) My answer to all this GROW MORE TREES and stop cutting rain forests down , Trees IIRC tend to help get rid of CO Oh sorry , cant do this we need more wood / land to grow food , to feed the ever growing populusMedical breakthoughs whilst excellent if you need them only add to the problem , 75 years is nothing nowadays whereas 200 years ago id be a gonner by now so more population kept alive longer , more CO This is probably all bollocks though as i know nout really , felt good putting it down though

Aye...that about sums it up.....get rid of a load of people or accept we are killing the planet..........Simple,mind you I'm still not convinced that global warming is entirely down to old car users.....seems like a handy scapegoat to me

Christopher Monckton, an old tory, but a very good speaker, and he seems to be about 10% nutter, so just about right to be taken seriously.

If we take this argument as far as it can go, surely ANY form of transport is eco-unfriendly? Maybe the human race should be exterminated for the sake of the enviroment?

That's not beyond the realms of probability. It's already being suggested that the government in this country is trying to stop the population moving around the country too freely. Pushing people out of their cars helps do that. Also the less people travel, the more easy they are to control. When the use of public transport is one of only a few options for getting around, you can be sure that this will then be taxed to the max. Again stopping people from travelling excessively. We are being restricted by degree, just a little bit at a time so we don't really know how badly we are being fucked with. What happened to the fuel protests, the likes of which we saw back in 2000? I really believe that the rot has set in now and the cost of petrol will soon (5 years) be out of reach to all but the most affluent amongst us.

TBH if there was a cheap, clean, reliable public transport network I would have no qualms in using it to do the mundane daily things - as it is its cheaper for me to get the bus into town and back than it is to park up and currently they run every 10 minutes, so no problems there. However to get to work requires a trip in the car of 8 minutes or 2 bus trips lasting 40 minutes. No brainer really.

There is -Light Rail Transport (Metros) The Midland Metro from Wolverhampton is brilliant; fast, comfortable, clean, reasonably cheap, eco-friendly and goes right into the centre of both cities. I would use it more, there is park and ride at most stations, but the nearest station is four miles away. There should have been a network right across the West Midlands, including to the Merry Hill shopping centre, which is a nightmare to get to by road, but it was blocked by our unelected prime minister when he was chancellor. He and he alone is to blame for our crap public transport system by blocking investment in it.

Nonsense, I would say most of the blame lies with John Major's crew for ther half-arsed efforts to privatise the trains and deregulate the buses. Money first, passengers second. Of course labour could have done more to improve it in their 13 years in power, they have never had a transport policy from day one, but it was the tories who did most to f**k up what we did have. They have even publicly admitted as such.

No Goverment in this country will spend the money required to put the infastructure back that was once there, it was there for industry and that no longer exists, they may tax us and claim its for "Public transport initatives and for the good of the enviroment" but the money will always end up being spent on a few cities and wasted on more NHS managers etc, and all our friendly Greens and Carbon offset salesmen etc are quite happy for it to continue as it gives them a job or a reason to exist

Likewise, I walk into town from my flat but work is 17 miles away. That's 35mins in the car or 1hr 15mins on the bus.

Quite true. I've never had a job that I coudn't cycle to quicker than public transport could get me to, including getting changed out of me wet clothes at the end...
