Had a transporter in at work today to collect a scrappage Rover 600. Already on it was this:

(Apologies for the quality of the phone pictures)

The paint wasn't the best, but it was clean and solid underneath and it looked as though someone had spent alot of time and some money.

Arse. Was that really definately going to the scrapper? Was it as clean as it looks?Don't bring me down with sad news, I'm having a good day so far.

Despite the bog-brush paint job, that looks bloody solid and that interior would certainly have been useful to someone. Shame.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!THAT'S MY OLD TOPAZ!!!!!!!!IT'S A FUCKING LOVELY CAR!!!!!!!!!WHY WOULD ANYONE SCRAP IT FOR A FUCKING KIA PICANTO!!!!!!:evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Seriously Wuvvs? it was yours?I am sorry - I would be gutted to see one of my ex-motors being mashed, especially if it was in good nick.

That looks gorgeous! Even if the pictures are deceptive - yet another case of mongs buying into the scrappage scheme

This is gash beyond gash. That looks fine like a show car (in my low quality world of shite) Scrappage? the only option is to break in at night and steal it.So sorry Wuvvum - can it be checked as to whether it's 'processed' yet? I'm so against the crappage scheme that I never cared to find out the actual situation of a cashed-in car's status at any time. Isn't there a sort of 'grace' period - even if it's like, one day before the papers get signed.

doesnt the shittage scheme end at the end of the month??please let it be so, ill have a big party to celebrate.Just hope that the garage this goes to sells some of the parts off it to an enthusiast. criminal wastage though, as is mostly the case with this bloody abysmal scheme.

You'd be a bit premature celebrating just yet. Although it is to end this month (and some dealers have stopped taking orders), its going to take a few months for all the orders to be fulfilled so I can guarantee that you'll see more sights like this for a couple of months at least.

Im genuinely disgusted!Wuvvum, whod ya sell it to? Maybe we should deliver it back to them.

I doubt it still belongs to the chap I sold it to - I sold it about six years ago. It was one of my best ever buys - 50 quid with three months' test and a genuine 74K from new. I used it as my daily for three months - it would sit quite happily at the ton in overdrive 4th and never let me down, although it did burn out flasher units quite quickly for some reason. I never really wanted to sell it - I was skint, so I put my Saab 96 in the paper. A chap came to look at the 96, didn't like it but fell in love with the Hunter, so I sold it to him, and regretted it immediately. I lost touch with him though so I don't know how long he had it for, but he was fairly local to Norwich.

Aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!!! I hope the twunt who chopped that in gets big end failure just outside oftheir warranty period

May not be being scrapped, sometimes those transporters move vehicles for people for a price and fit it in with other jobs. Looks far too good to be scrapped anyway.

Even my Mrs looked horrified when I just showed her the pics. Bastards.

:( If this is due to have an unhappy ending, we have to rewrite the script somehow!

Are we certain it's going for scrappage?Utter crying shame though, looks a pretty decent car that :(

According to the doovla its taxed until August. The papers might not have been signed.Or they may be in the post(or whatever due process is).

The tax disc is missing from the windscreen, so it's probably in the post to be cashed in

Where abouts was it? If its going to die an unfortunate death I'd be very interested in the running gear especially as Wuvs says its got an OD box :(

:x someone should pass a law to save cars over a certain age, or give them to a owners club, my son works at a garage that takes cars for the scrapage scheme and he tells me they are just cubed, what a waste. :x

Not all are. Depends on who the dealership use to dispose of them. An awful lot seem to end up being sold onto dismantlers such as U Pull It who offer them for parts.

That`s exactly what this looked like to me, all the scrap blokes I know with recovery trucks have shifted interesting things from one place to another in between the endless weighing in of Mondeos and Vectras.

Sorry to hear that it was a car known to a member here. According to the collection driver it was scrappage. The company that collected it are:http://www.solebaycarspares.com/

Gah! A bit far away but probably do-able. While it is dreadful that this car looks like its got to be crushed I'd quite like to make something positive out of the scheme. :?

Good luck on that, Seth. Moar power & moar gears for the Minx will certainly be a good thing, makes it better for when you sell it to me.

I'm not sure I can justify even phoning up about it though. Its 120 miles along the A12. Towing the trailer means it would likely take 3 hours each way. Plus time spent there stripping/removing the engine/box and I'd have to do it on a week day so there's lost work time and child issues to take into account. :?

Posted

I think you could justify it purely for the window quarterlights? What you can get off it and any other minor trim bits that will surely be needed for other cars - they might not be worth much monetary wise, but think of the favours you could be owed!

What a bloody waste, it looks really straight. This is the problem with the scrappage scheme - the £2k incentive is just to good to turn down
