Estate car mystery

So, any clues as to what the white estate is in this photo I scanned from an old (1982) copy of Practical Classics?

There's a larger versions available if you view it on Flickr:

Opel Kadett? Taunus? As Reallyloud noted on Flickr it has quite a short wheelbase. What's odd is the apparent step in the roofline (presuming this is intentional and not the result of damage).

Obviously you can have fun looking at the other stuff present - a fine spread of British/European grot, though no Japanese. That 1300GT would have been a mere 10 years old

Could be a Taunus 12M estate...

Funny..ive had two of those..the 17M Turnier..which i think the white one is [an early example]and i had an Ascona A tho not estate...

My money is on the Kadett series B as Pog has shown. Definitely not a Taunus as the Kadett has a front quarterlight where the Taunus doesn't.

That photo is of a stripped out taunus, best I could find ..

Just checked the comments on flickr - same conclusion was reached 21 minutes ago, but I didn't cheat, honestly!

Michiel, I somehow knew you’d find one or two amongst that awesome B&W collection. A virtual prize of your choice to be shared between you and Andrew on Flickr.Must have been a rare thing in the UK.

:D Don't think there aren't many around here as well, the tragic fate of estates before the whole 'lifestyle vehicle' nonsense...

Thanks SL, and well done Michiel too............It's been a while since I've been on here!

I've had a celebratory cuppa and not one, but TWO, fruity malt loaf slices! :D

There's the chase involving one of these Opel Rekords (saloon) and a Fiat 124 in this YOUTUBE clip, it's been posted before I think :

1982 copy of Practical Classics! that Austin is only 10 years old :lol:

I've seen OK-looking 10 year old cars in scrapyards recently, they aren't scrappage either.

Posted

1982 - 10yr old car ends up in scrappy due to terminal rust.2010 - 10yr old car ends up in scrappy due to economically-unviable electronic fault, or snapped cambelt.Hot Chrysler 180 in the background though.

Looking at that photo again, whats the estate behind the white one? Looks smallish, 5 door.
