Swallowtail tax?

That reminds me of an old guy who used to live down the road from us, he was selling a mk1 Golf and i just happened to mention it to my son, he asked if it was a swallow tail, a what? i asked, he explained that the (single) difference is a crease on the sheet steel below the number plate and this they call "the swallow tale" yes it's very rare apparently so it's worth more money. More bollocks and more bullshit, still the boys into the mk1 dubs will probably pay the scene tax i'm not quite sure they will pay the 7+ k for this one though.

6 wheeked Scamp is indeed ours-being sold for me by family (- works keeping me away)

its fine.Spaceframe is sound, floors are good -enginefree. Came out of the barn remnants recently -so the sheds can get rebuilt -and I'm never now going to use it. Was intended for a chopped roof jobbie for ourflat in southern france- never happened.

Alfettai was totally goosed-but went to Scotlandas spares.

Another 25 or so currently out in the cold...decisions to be made as to whether they go back -or get sold.

Hiya.

T.O:- 14 is welded one side (the worst).T'other waiting its turn. Spring-methinks, no space inside right now.

G.J:- You can always bid on the Munga- but it does need a new floor.Good news-its just a flat sheet-and pretty easy to do.

Needs a bigger engine though-really.

I've got the horn for this, as spotted by Sir Tainly-barkin.....

Looks like a total honey - apart grom being snapped.

How hard can it be? Please try really hard to put me off.....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/150528744830

It does look nice, it was sold by Autodisposals in Leeds for something like £3k not that long since.

Trouble is, to properly repair the chassis (or even bodge it to a half decent standard) the body needs to come off. Not a quick job to fix then.

Is a Golf with small tail light clusters automatically a swallowtail or was there another revision in between?

Dunno about the tail lights, except that early Golfs had small (er?) rectangular rear light's (maybe also which do not wrap around the rear side panel at all ((???)).

The rear panel with the crease, just below and either side of the numberplate is iirc what makes them a swallow tail. Other, more ordinary Golf had a plain flat crease continuing along the whole width of the rear panel (*i think*)

Fwiw i don't see the attraction really, a rear panel is a rear panel etc it;s the car as a whole which would either make me buy it or not, he would have to knock a zero off the price for me to entertain the idea.

Basically it's all down to the swage line of the back panel below the rear number plate, if it curls down like the blue one above then it's a swallowtail, if it's straight then it's not, Only the very first one are swallowtail and most sort after.

It's explained better here http://www.reid.org/~dreid/Swallowtail/ ... owtail.htm

To be fair it has a 24v cosworth engine and manual box so it ought to gat a freakin move on at least.

I feel like, having taken the piss out of that Beauford, it would be unreasonable not to take the piss out of this as well. However its such solid shite, (and is attarcting some serious coin from other presumed high rollers of the shite industry) that i am going to refrain.

It just shows that even if you win a few quid on the lottery, theres no reason not do be driving round in a complete pile of shite. Money is not a barrier!
