The P100 did come with the 1.8 Turbo Diesel lump from the later Sierras as my dad had one when new back in 1991.i also think the 2.3d came in the earlier ones as well.

Why's it so wrong? It's not like the Capri is some kind of high class sports car.

Two reasons.1) I despise diesels.2) I love Mk1 Capris.Pinto engines aren't as bad as they're made out to be anyway. Ok, they're heavier than they should be, and they knocked camshafts out with monotonous regularity when first released, but they're nicely torquey, simple, easy to tune and strong. Shove Perkins lumps in Jags all day if that's what floats your boat, but putting a diesel in a Capri is something that'll never appeal to me. Having said that, if this Capri comes up for sale again soonish, would someone let me know? There'll be a TD engine for sale a couple of days later ;)

Mental note: Don't sell it to Pete M so it can continue to annoy him with the next owner

Hey my P100 goes pretty well so I would expect this to be a perfectly feasible daily which will have no probs keeping up with the traffic.Whats involved in upgrading from 75 to 90 bhp then? I presume it entails an intercooler as my P100 is non-intercooled.

To be honest it depresses me to see that every new Scirocco seems to be an oil burner.

A nice Mk1 Capri for that money is alright no matter what the engine, the more you think of it a diesel Capri would have been almost marketable if it had lasted a few more years, an H-reg Mk4 Capri TD in Dark Blue metallic would not seem at all strange if it existed. (differences between the Mk4 and MK3 would have been smooth Sierra style back lights, more rounded plastic bumpers, possibly pigmented to match the body colour and a new nose that looks sort of like a Sapphire with quad headlamps that are not round but not really square either. Possibly)That is probably the sort of thing that turns up if you have too long a go on that Spectrum game "New wheels John" that Hirst posted up a bit back, and it gets into a year way beyond the one the game was made in.

Cavette : found some old tax discs in it and it turns out it was in mid wales around 2001-2004, then it went to manchester, then Kent, then to ayrshire. looks like it was the one that bloke converted.Wonder if the Probe/Cougar would have been more successful if they had used the capri name?

Hey, small world or what?I recall the garage the lad worked at and I *think* I remember his name, if you want details pm me as he might be able to give you more info on the car if you want.I'm almost certain he said he built it himself, he was bang into Capris/old Fords, assuming it is the same one of course. Then again how many Capri dizzlers are likely to be in any area ten or so years ago LOL?
