The car carrying ones were probably Super Freighters.

I think SilverCity  ran out of Southend, 3 car Argosy planes wave hopped from Lydd to Le Touquet. It was quite an experience for a young lad like myself going on holiday with my parents and sister in a Fiat 1500.
