Am I wrong to fancy a Daimler Corsica?

Had a splendid day at the JDHT at Browns Lane on Friday where I filled an empty day by joining the archive team to research and computerize the "specials" made on Track 2 between 1992 and 1995. Geek. The experience was as far removed from the Jag Enthusiasts / Jag Drivers malarkey as possible. Sincerely nice people - Norman Dewis even insisted on sharing a quiche with me when the sandwich man didn't show up.

Anyway, down in the museum bit is this:

I didn't get any photos as there was a "do" going on - best not to really.

I prefer this to the XJS. Am I wrong? It's only a 4.0, not the V12.

That looks alright to me. V12 would be pretty nice 8)

It's absolutely stunning, though a one off. I drool every time I clap eyes on it - they took it to the NEC in 2008 I think. Wasn't there this year though but I did visit JDHT late last year and had a private drool.

Didn't they do an XJ40 2-door show car as well? That was lovely, too.I seem to recall that the Corsica needed a fair bit of resto/recommissioning when it arrived at the JDHT, featured in JEC mag I think.

Yes, a red 2 door coupe with the 6.0 V12.

That is in storage now - I hoped it would be in the museum, but at least it's in good hands. It appeared too close the the launch of the X300 to be realistically produced. Had they sorted that a few years earlier I think it would have sold well. A decent alternative to an CL600 and a damn sight cheaper too.

The Corsica does look a little tatty in places, and somebody told me that the hood is straight off an Audi. The VIN is DEVELOPMENTVEH1CLE

We did uncover some real oddities last Friday - I guess you'd need to be heavily into XJ40's and X300's to be interested. Nearly enough for a book I reckon. One of the curators there owns an XJ40 with a factory fitted 5.3 V12. That blows one major rumour out the window. My research now takes me to the far east and gaining access into underground car parks and eccentric rich folks' collections.

Still, if I do well, I may get a discount on some fuel pumps for my Jag.

wow nice that, not quiet autoshite though

No, you're quite right. Here's a very rusty Jaguar sill to redress the balance.

I really enjoy reading/seeing development vehicles etc. Nice thread.. look forward to some more 'secret' stuff in the future...?

Hopefully! I am looking forward to gaining access to a particular hotel in Hong Kong to find a Lavender pink XJ40 V12 Majestic under a tarp.

That's a new one on me, I was thinking it would be this :) :

The Corsica has always made me think of a prettier, poor mans Bentley Azure.

Not too sure about the coupe XJ40 - the glass house seem too upright and perched for a coupe.

Always thought it was a shame that they never productionised this

A far more autoshite appropriate version:

Done in Germany apparently. Love it.
