THE GUBBERMINT ALWAYS KNOWS BEST

I must say I was quite pleased with it. Note that this was a bodge that didn't need Duck Tape, WD40 or cable ties............

Just been mailed a really good insurance quote for TV2 by its previous insurer, which is about half of what I'm now paying, but the car's current policy doesn't run out until October. Does anyone know if/how I can easily/cheaply cancel my existing policy in order to switch to the new one?

First post in the news thread!

Had my scimitar Vic checked on Tuesday which went well the tester was fairy sympathetic towards old cars (he had a collection of Triumh mayflowers!) and the car passed ok, Had it re MOT'd today (only 3 months since the last one. so hopefully I can get it sent off to the insurers to satisfy them its been repaired.

On the way home I stopped to help a girl whos silver mini mayfair had run out of fuel. So I ran her up the road to get some in the scimitar. Never got her number though...

First impressions are it's actually rather good!

I very nearly bought a manual Z28 one of those a few years ago (until I discovered my trade policy wouldn't touch it with a bargepole). I liked it, mainly because it was just a decent sounding V8 bolted into an honest car. None of this prestige, soft touch, 'I'm refined, me' bollocks.

Good grin at roundabouts, too.

Just bought ten litres of Simoniz car shampoo for £1 from my local Wilkinsons (the Southend-on-Sea branch), which should last me several years, even with two cars to wash:

I wasn't sure that the asking price was correct at first, but when I saw that every container (about thirty of them) on display had the same price sticker and that all of their barcodes had been obliterated with black marker pen, I didn't need to be convinced further. I reckon that the heavy discounting must be the result of an over-stock, or that the shampoo is an end-of-line product, meaning that it might be a country-wide deal. Check out your local Wilko, as you may be in for a pleasant surprise :)

I'm thinking of returning later on with one of the Volvos, in order to obtain £5-worth of the stuff ^^

Deal! Shame there's no Wilkos here. I actually need to buy shampoo. Amazingly, I've still got the 5l tub I bought from Halfords in 1995 when I had my first car. Shows you how often I clean my cars...

I've got a new car!! Using my Land Rover for the commute and blezzing all over the UK was getting a bit silly so I decided to get something oldish, interestingish and with goodish MPG. After a false start with a mate's Renault Clio van that got a four-page MOT fail I won a 1994 Peugeot 205 STDT on eBay for £670 and pick it up on Sunday, chuffed to bits as always wanted one of those and it's in the right colour with the right wheels. :D

It's really nice to get stuff so cheap, even from stores like Wilko, whose stock is keenly priced already :)

I've lost count of how many bottles of car shampoo I have used since 1995. I guess it must be several hundred :P

Ah come on Kev. Make with the pics!! Great motor.

Do you gargle with it? Why the heavy consumption?

As well as washing my own car once a week (nowadays, the Volvos are lucky if they get washed every three weeks), I used to wash quite a lot of other peoples' cars in order to earn extra money when I was a student :)

This was in my watch list. Nice purchase Mr. S - I love these cars.

That's it Wuvs!! I missed a grey D-Turbo a few weeks ago as I didn't have quite enough money, this one went cheaper and is in much better nick. I've got a PAS pump on standby for it :)

Anybody want a M-reg diesel Clio van for bits?? It'll be cheap, located with my pal in Surrey.

That's exactly the wheels and colour of 205 I had in my head when you described it - top work!

Posted

205 is ace and the wheels really suit it, nice work!

Today my son sold his/our Mk3 Fiesta. Got an offer he couldn't refuse and we have more shite lined up already, though it's not really as 'Autoshite' as the Fiesta was.

It's a shame to see the back of the little Ford, had really enjoyed bumbling round in it and even though it was desperately slow it was great fun to drive and completely unspoilt from crappy stick on tat.

Today I have mostly decided to pick up the new shitter and, thanks to the unique way in which my bank account says no to anything remotely decent, it's a right old wankbag.

It came with the added bonus of a flat tyre, knackered headgasket, an interior that reeks of cats piss and front seats that weren't bolted down. 1.4 litres of headgasket befuckled motor coupled to a SPAZMATIC gearbox meant progress wasn't exactly quick. But as Brucie may have said 'if the price is right, come on clown'.

Tyre pumped up, driver's seat tied down with rope, water topped up, windows open, Radio1 very quickly untuned from the Christmas cracker Hyungdongo XLGT CD player and the short drive home...

OMG 20 BPH MORE WIV DEM REER LITES...

I can honestly say I was more ARSED about it having fucking Lexus lights than worrying about whether the headgasket would hold up, which it did without drama.

It'll be a scrapyard job for the seat runners (fucked) and standard rear lights, and Aunty Bessie's favourite industrial sized lump hammer job to 'modifiy' the spaccy Lexarse rear lights.

Posted

Attractive as the idea of smashing these lights is, couldn't you make a bit of cash selling them to a fuckwit?

Posted

Gotta be honest, thats the worst car I have seen for at least 6 months, how much was it?

Posted

I'm a bit offended by that. Was hoping it'd be the worse car you've seen in at least a couple of years.

It was a oner with a few months tax. Wheels will probably make fifty quid and those revolting back lights possibly thirty sov's. Test ran out today but aside from the obvious (hg fail and seats) I've not spotted anything alarming to prevent another MOT.

U SHUD XE IT M8! LEAV IT AS A 1.0 ON THE LOG BOOK THO 4 THE INSURANCE

WILL BE AWESOME

Posted

to be fair its probably pretty saleable given a good clean-up and a fresh ticket. Some sackless bint with a perm who's managed to scrape through her driving test recently will be well happy to cover it in playboy stickers I imagine.

Posted

Fucks sake, that is a truly horrific turd, even by your impossibly low standards.

STRAIGHT OVER THE BRIDGE PLS.

Posted

Fuggin 'ell. that is actually horrible. I reckon you could make a bit of money by selling tickets to Autoshiters for a "£2 for 2 minutes with a lump hammer" on that.

Posted

I reckon it'd be difficult not to make a sizable profit on that if you sorted it, it's a Corsa Auto! Doesn't even look that bad nick really, looks straight enough bar the usual trim fade and obligatory bent door. If it wasn't for the stupid back lights it'd only look like any other old Corsa does now.

I'm by no means the world's biggest fan of them, but I definitely like being given money.

Posted

That's the plan, though a full de-chavving session will have to take place first. Reasonably confident it'll see circa £225 as it stands.

Posted

The Escort failed the MOT :( But only on the rusty sill which i knew about and a sticking rear brake!, Result!

Posted

That really is grim cavette , but for that money , who cares ,

Posted

Erm, the seat was sort of not bolted down at all so the rope and the carefully placed spare (standard) wheels and tyres which came with it acted as my super safe seat securing device.

Been trying to locate an interior for it and only seem to be offered GSi/Sport type ones which I don't really want.

Posted

What are those wheels originally from? Only I do have a Mk4 Astra on the way...

That Porsche 924 I bought had an unbolted seat when I bought it (the seller decided to unbolt and remove every thing inside for no obvious reason). It's a horrible sensation, I can't imagine the horror of a loose seat and worrying about struggling with a dodgy HG. I was in pain from contorting my body around corners to stop me going out through the boot glass.

On a scarily related story, that Porsche I bought is up for sale again by the bloke who bought it off me:

Was lovely to drive, but overall, it was kind've rough looking! It's up for 400 quid, I'm tempted to buy it again!
