High class obscure European saloons of the 1970s and '80s

I've become quite obsessed with these recently.

Monteverdi Sierra, based on a Plymouth Volare! It looks pretty smart though, they did a good job de-Americanising the Volare.

Maserati Quattroporte II. Based on SM mechanicals! Only 13 were ever built, which is a shame as the styling is really cool - like a cross between an SM and a much sleeker Peugeot 604. Its successor was really boxy and indistinguished.

ISO Fidia. I don't know much about these, but phwoar.

Any more?

Those three are an utterly stunning selection! Prefer the Volare but then I would.

Lusted for a Quattroporte II for yonks, no chance of me ever having one though. If I end up rich somehow, I would get a Quattroporte III though.

That Fidia thing is a curious creation, comes with either a Ford or Chevrolet V8.

Whilst we're at it, let's have a De Tomaso Deauville.

Here's the Sierra's predecessor.

It looks strange side-on, the enormous plane of its boot making it look like a double cab pick-up.

Those Monicas are made of win. And clearly the inspiration for the Porsche Panammeira thing. The ISO is a new one on me, prior to today I did not know ISO beyond Grifo (and the Revolting, but that didn't fit so well...)

YOWSER!

That's ace. It looks like what would result if you locked a Granada Mk2 and a Jensen Interceptor in a room together with a few bottles of wine and a Barry White LP.

I've actually owned one of these [now in Stondon Motor Museum] swapped a Buick Riveira boat tail for it. All 4 electric windows were banjaxed, and the heater ws stuck on full heat.......................in August.....Some of the other electrics worked when they felt like it, and the brakes were a little intersting. Went like the clappers though.

The Vignale styled T613 is more like it.

I can never make my mind up properly about these, I think they look a bit dumpy.

LOFL!I've got a photo of 999KUM in a car park too!ISOs always had good names (eg Lele). I know my dad always lusted after a Griffo.Did Bristol ever do a four door?

So THAT's what it would look like if I grafted an FD Victor front end onto my XJ - bad idea then!

The Pantera GTS was my number 2 dream car as a kid, after a Ford GT40.

What's 'high class' about a Fiat Argenta? Get outta here.

Cars can look pretty bad in photos, but great in real life.

makes it look a lot better.

Boxy Italian berline with thirsty V6s are for winners.

That rings a bell, could well be, he had some lovely CX's, one of which I should have done the deal on rather than that bloody grren thing......

I bought a Lancia HPE in 1995 that he'd had as a trade-in, couldn't afford to even look at his CXs (I think it was called The CX Centre around this time). The HPE was green, cool and Italian too. It was also an absolute piece of shit, the most unreliable car I've owned and against some stiff opposition.

I'd never heard of half the cars here - brilliant thread.Looks like I've a bit of reading to do...

HPE's were a great idea, built very badly, sort of an Italian Scimitar. Only the bloody Italians could build a steel [when new, anyway] car with more unreliable electrics than a fibreglass one.........
