Fella turned up with his friend who's driving the newer Land Cruiser.

Look around it, best price nonsense but stood firm. The one of them was on the phone for a bit and he said no basically.

Why?

He only checked the fucking road tax now, after driving up from London. And has walked away from it.

Whilst it will irritate you that you didn't shift it, well done on standing your ground and making sure they wasted their journey.

He'd have spent more in the diesel coming down and going back than he would on one months tax on the car.

Fuckwits! We've had the higher post 2006 tax bands for nearly 20 years now. It's not a surprise.

A similar age Discovery is now worth about 2 years' tax, hence nobody wants them.

I think he was basing it on the tax his mate pays, but his mate is driving a fucking 2 year old Land Cruiser. Not a 20 year old one.

Still, it's been up on eBay and AutoTrader since Saturday and there has been interest, although this sort of interest. And it's still far more than last time. So it's looking positive.

Especially positive for the wife who knows the time a potential Berlingo pops up on to the drive is now further away.

Perhaps this is what you need to replace the Land Cruiser.

All of the enjoyment of chasing obscure Japanese parts as it's at least partly Mitsubishi under there, with all of the prestige* of a practical Citroen.

But the tax on a 2 year old Land cruiser would be quite a lot, because it would have cost over £40k new.Though possibly the last ones were sold as commercial vehicles to get round some regulations or something.

You’re lucky my wife isn’t here and doesn’t know this car exists.

His mate reckoned it was about £340 a year for him. May not have been a 2 year old one. It was definitely much newer than mine though. So probably a 150.

I was selling a Ford Ranger once and the prospective buyer asked for a reduced price because the insurance was more expensive than he thought it was going to be, then turned up looked at it and said his wife said no, she wanted a Range Rover Sport !

Ever wonder why they put instructions on the back of shampoo bottles?

We've met the reason why.

This is not a new thing. Step out of the asylum to visit Wonko the Sane and ask about toothpicks.

Another one from 2 hours away is coming, said he'd be around 12.

Let's see if we've got another who needs instructions to use shampoo.

So the 2 have come up from London again. Two Romanian lads.

Took one of them in for a test drive (he had insurance, drivers license, no bother). He went through everything on it. He's picked up brakes (which he's right about).

His mate followed behind, and said he saw black smoke from the back. Well I fucked him out of that, I told him there isn't smoke. If there is it's when his friend was heavy with the accelerator and up the hill and i said that's standard on an old diesel being booted. Injectors were mentioned and I said they were reconditioned from a company every Land Cruiser owner uses, had the receipt. Explained that when I went to Toyota to get the list of parts I went to get the injectors but they were only selling reconditioned ones themselves anyway so did what I did.

The one lad, whether he's good at acting or what, looks torn about it.

They've gone off for a coffee to think about it.

While someone is looking at it,get the good lady to ring you up.Say in a loud voice, that someone is looking at it,and if they don't want it, they're next on the waiting list.Apologise to the would be buyers, saying there's suddenly been a lot of interest.

She suggested that. May still do it.

To be fair when he started on about the smoke, I said "lads if you're not keen on the smoke then there are plenty of other cars out there for you". I'm not coming across as desperate or trying to knock money off for something silly.

Just make sure one of them doesn't tip a stealthy bottle of oil into the header tank while you're not looking.

I never let them out of my sight really so there was none of that sort of shenanegans. Although I know towards the end they were fucking around at the front of it and the alarm went off on the Land Cruiser (which shocked them as I don't think they realised I locked it - forgot myself).

It's been a long coffee break for them anyway, they've not come back. So I'm fairly sure they either don't like it or I'm not the pushover I must come across like on t'internet.

I’ve had this before, I couldn’t believe it. (Well, oily fingers straight from dipstick)

It’s blocked in with a gate and the wife’s car.

Plus it may be rather difficult to start at the moment 😉

Now we have a man coming from St.Albans. That’s another 2 hour one way jolly.

At least last night he asked sensible questions so let’s be positive people!!!

Then I can choose a new passion wagon.

To get a no nonsense private sale these days you have to practically give the car away. People these days are mostly potless - they have very little to spend - they expect even a cheap car to last years.

Posted

When he gets there, send me a PM and I'll ring you up saying I'm on my way to buy it as I've got a Rexton with terminal chassis rust and I need a car for Monday morning!

Should’ve done!

He seemed to like it but he’s quibbling over the rear air con. So he said he liked it but will research how much it’d cost to reinstate that.

So it’s still here!

Don't think people are particularly short of money. Thanks to the internet, they're all car "experts".I genuinely feel sorry for people both buying and selling at that sort of price point.Buyers have got unfeasibly high expectations, sellers are probably trying to get rid before the next big bill.

I've never taken more than 40 minutes to make my mind up about a car, including test drive. If someone's that fussy maybe a complicated 20 year old 4x4 isn't for them.

Just saw your ad and it looks like a nice jeep, well worth the money, especially with new injectors and the suspension done.

I’m the same, you’ve made your mind up when you see the car. Obviously if it clatters and smokes or whatever then it changes it but generally it doesn’t take a committee meeting to decide to buy it.

He called me when I was out about it and gave him more feedback about the air con. So we will see.
