I'm not sure Regie.

I know it says "Mini Off-Road" down both sides!

Its headlights and surrounds aren't original (Mazda Familia?).

It's the only car in the whole stash that I've seen on the road around town since I've lived here, though some of them look like they were only parked up last week!

I'm sure Michiel knows what this is... :D ...

The 'pink thing' looks a bit like an Autobianchi, I've got have pictures of one in a book on the Lancia Y10, but the front end looks different :? One of the first and one of the last Saab 96 two-strokes :) A few years ago they would have been my 'ideal pair' (now there's an idea for a thread 8) )

Jeez - unbelievable!!Is the apartment block empty???

As everyone else says, just AMAZING!! But, where is it, what's the story?

The ride height of that 504 almost makes it look like a dangel. I bet that thing would start once the battery is charged. Is this a dream you had? Tell us.

NSU RO80 for me please. Visible in the pic with the 2 BXs, looking over to the blue Humber, with the Topolino in the background (It's on the right) ME WANTUM!!

Could you pinch the NSF indicator lens off the white Renner next to the "pink thing" and post it to me please? I need one for my Boston. Ta. :wink:That is a damned impressive collection of vehicles . I especially like the metallic blue Humber. Is that a Topolino next ot the "pink thing"?

Time for some answers, I think. Sorry for the delay - we are 7 hours ahead of GMT in Thailand.

I've got into the habit of always keeping my camera in my pocket when I'm on the bike, and when I'm not in a rush to get anywhere, I look through fences and up side streets, eyes peeled for shite.

This derelict shopping centre/apartment building is in a 'field' (!) right on a major junction on the edge of town. It was probably abandoned as the financial crisis hit in 1997 as it was nearing completion. Most such places have been resurrected/knocked down/redeveloped since, especially in such prime location, but not this one. Maybe because the top half looks like cheap flats, and the bottom a kind of open plan shopping mall. Weird.

And a mosquito-infested swimming pool around the back:

The inside was partially built, vandalized and stripped of anything of value. The basement was flooded, with the sound of gushing water. Maybe someone has nicked all the taps for weighing in.

But we don't care about the building, really: it's all about the autoshite.

The field has a good perimeter fence, and one gate, watched by a woman selling rugs (not toupees). She took 50 Baht off me (70 Pence) and in I went to do as I please. I was happy to pay, better than keeping them all locked away and/or having people break in during the night.

My Thai isn't clever enough to quiz her about the hoard, but I'd like to take my wife back to find out more sometime.

The cars are all dusty, but watched over. There's no evidence of work going on, but the floor is kept swept around the treasures. While I was there, three blokes came and took away the Mirage:

Off to one side was this piece of kit, which I'm sure had something to do with how some of the collection arrived.

Does anyone recognise its engine?

Well done Mash, I think you’re right:

In 1966, Daihatsu introduced the Fellow, also known as Daihatsu 360 for export markets. In 1969, the Daihatsu Fellow Max was introduced to replace the Daihatsu Fellow. In 1977 the cars were renamed Daihatsu Max Cuore with the length now 316 cm for the sedans and 316.5 cm for the wagon. By March, 1979 the car was renamed Daihatsu Cuore (though still badged Max Cuore). In Europe, the car was called Daihatsu Cuore from 1977 on. 1980 saw the introduction of the Daihatsu Mira sold alongside the Fellow until 1987.

Sorry Wuvz, I couldn’t take advantage, and I’d be in full view of the rug lady…

I especially like the metallic blue Humber. Is that a Topolino next ot the "pink thing"?

Just for you: Enjoy.

Me too, that was my favourite, too. Well spotted, I thought I was saving it for later, but here we are. Like most, it was original, complete and untouched. Just like it had driven from the factory. It was the first time I’d seen one up close, and it was perfect from every angle, just beautiful. I hope it has the chance to shine again…

Yeah, it was like a dream… lucky I had the camera with me and primed to prove it was all real.

The 504 looks fairly typical of the ones I’ve seen about – perhaps non-European 504s had bigger shocks for 3rd-world roads?

This one did look tall next to the sleek, rakish little Saab:

Looks like Mr. Bickle is living a double life in Thailand! Deffo a consequence of the crash and this looks like a pawn shop storage facility. But as soon as Asians get rich again, they dump their history and move on to shiney new impressive stuff. Same as China - loads of old Dacias and FSO's lie rotting in make-shift stores following the "purge" on corruption a few years back. Owners never look back, and are now in S Class Mercs and 7 Series Beemers. I have had a quick look back through the Oriental Offerings thread, but can't find the pic that this refers to; but is that white saloon above the 504 pick-up the same as the white saloon we were having trouble identifying before (Cresta vs Rekord etc)? Are the motors still in most of them, or have they been ripped out for spares sales?

Extraordinary! You’ve certainly raised the game there.

It's a circa 1961 Opel Rekord, so you may be right CT. I love the Peugeot 504 pick up.

99% sure that wasn't on the oriental offerings thread, it was on a thread by somebody that had visited Crete/Cyprus/Spain that sort of place, wasn't 55bloke was it?

Joe when you say that once you paid your fee to the woman you could pretty much do what you wanted, that isn't true if you can't poach any parts from the cars! :P

Thinking about it I think I'm confusing two different threads here but having lost all of those topics I can't prove one way or another. I think I know the one you mean, it was an old white car (50s?) sat on a driveway on a hill with some other vehicles. We tired to work out what it was & decided it was an Opel. The one I thought you meant was a car that I don't think we conclusively managed to identify, it looked like a Vauxhall Cresta, but everyone was coming up with different suggestions like Holden etc. It might have been posted by somebody who went to Malta, that kind of place. The car was also white & had been dumped like a lot of things are!

That SAAB 96 has 4 stud wheels, that's not normal is it? I thought the 96 had 5 stud wheels with very large centres.
