4x4 HGVs

All this talk of 4x4s at the moment on here has got me thinking.

I had the (dis?)pleasure of driving this for a few days a couple of weeks ago around the viscinty of Pately Bridge, though didn't get to drive in that much snow, which I was hoping for.

it's a 51 registered Iveco Cargo rated at 17.5 tonnes though relatively compact. Extremely slow (limited to 50mph) but very impressive sounding - it obviosly had a sizeable engine. I also seemed to be getting a better view than some arctic lorry drivers, though this still didn't stop people walking right in front of it when stopped at lights  If you can't see the driver, they can't see you!

Anyway, thought it might make an interesting thread, getting other examples of lorries on stilts that can go anywhere. Bedford TKs and the DAF ones seen in the latest rendition of Day of the Triffids are allowed but the more shite and unusual the better!

Bonus points if anyone knows what happens to the rally support lorries (Mercedes, MAN, Daf etc.) used on the Paris-Dakar and other wacky races once they're done with? Time to raid the Frontrunner home videos for inspiration! :D

What you want is a nice air-cooled 4x4 lorry, great for not freezing or boiling.

It's a Magirus-Deutz. Aberdeenshire council used to use a newer version to clear the snow on higher routes like the A939, it had an air-cooled diesel V8 and sounded pretty primal. Sadly the last time I saw it, it was upside down in a field last winter.

edit: found a pic of it at the Lecht

I like the idea of that happening with a truck that says "Provision" on the side of it.

I spotted it in Glasgow in August 2006.

'SA' is an Aberdeen registration identifier, so I imagine so. That thing looks mean.

Woah! That Cargo! Got to say I've never seen a 4x4 option of one before. It's olive drab but was it British military or foreign? And how old does it look from behind the cab? Unless it's a Cargo cab on something older?Oddly enough I also saw a Y reg Deutz in Pately Bridge with a large plow and a gritter body. Was LHD, sounded fantastic and was owned by a private company! Still council yellow though.

I know the cargo is produced in India and used by the Indian Army, and since at the time the Cargo was in production we were attached to the Bedford Mks and TMs so I highly doubt its a brit version, especially since for truck based recovery vehicles we used MKs and for heavy roles militants and scammells until recently!m0rris
