Jee wizz this is getting out off hand now members are starting to argue with themselfs a local garage round here will not sell any cheep cars whatsoever they go straight to scrap if they are not perfect,when i tried to purchase one no amount off discusion would work they just dug in and flat refused, they did however give me the scrappys no and said that i should try them in a few days as it would be collected asap but they simply just bailed itstraight off the lorry

Going to Trading Standards is a bit over the top isnt it? No it's maybe not allowed but we dont need to start going around random companies grassing them up do we?I dont know masses about Alfas, but have seen this dealer mentioned a few times and it's always been in a positive way.

I thought that the case was, if the seller said "trade sale" / "sold as seen" / "part-ex to clear" or whatever, you run the gauntlet, that's it end of story.

 

I don't quite understand why anyone would be really upset if they bought this car at that price and it was a minger. It's probably not the end of the world. Anyone who knowingly parts cash for anything Italian must have some prior knowledge that it will sound like heaven on form but WILL go wrong at some point.

 

Anyone who just wants to NOT go on the bus will buy a Fiesta or similar. Surely.

 

Probably not even that steep a price either, because these Alfa's make one HELLA SEXY NOISE.

 

I got one of these 155 Silverstone's off wor Russ... he paid Wakely off Practical Classics £1.20 for one, and fixed it up good, mechanically. It still looked a POS outside though. He swapped me for a VW LT35 and I punted the Alfa onto a very happy ebayer for £395, though that was a private sale before the great scrap cull of '07...

Grassing up a half decent garage to the Trading Standards folk is just mean spirited - especially when the 'Grass' concerned has no intention of buying the car. Having delt with TS once or twice, I suspect they will have "a quiet word".They like to see fair play but are unlikely to prosecute unless you are a real rouge trader, tarmacing, granny robbing lowlife.

That's good to hear I suppose, too often government run organisations are too black and white (sorry..). I am not for malpractice or anything, but it's understandable why they've advertised cars like that even it's not allowed.I agree pretty much with Reverend Bluejeans post.
