my mum's ex-husband (not my dad) used to have a red Astra GTE, I thought it was rubbish at the time (I was about 8 and into american cars in a big way) but i've had a hankering for one for a few years now. Sadly his died in 2002 according to the doovla. Better innings than most I imagine though...

It probably is an Opel (badge engineered Astra) as it's Irish registered and RHD.

Sure is.Badged as Opel Kadetts over there as was the mk2 Astra aswell. Great motors and would especially love an early SR.One of the few cars I would actually give up my Cortina to own.

I like these as my Aunt & Uncle had one in the early eighties. Wasn't an SR though. Don't think those wheels suit the gold one though.

That Kadett SR looks pretty good, it doesn't look like it's over-done, or trying to be hip (not too much anyway).Mk1 Astras/Kadett Ds are ACE, I'd love to have another (mine was a beige 1.2 saloon version), there don't seem to be many about now though.

Does look nice that. Porsche wheels not really my taste though. Silver & white ones look pretty desirable though!

This car overtook us while on holiday in Donegal - I was driving and the camera was in the boot. I regret not taking a photo of it now when it was parked up in Kerrykeel!

Saloon versions must be mega rare now? I recall someone on RR selling one a year or two back and I was gutted I couldn't afford it's very reasonable price.Not overly keen on the colour of the gold one or the wheels tbh.

That's fantastic! From the era when Vauxhalls were great. Nova SR, Astra GTE, Cavalier SRi,Carlton GSi 3000, Monza and Senator....magic! The MKI Astra was good enough to nearly topple the MKI Golf GTi from its top spot among the legendary hot hatches of the 80's. That was the year before the 205GTi came along of course and blew everything away.....

Could have been mine, or the same car when a certain P.Weasel esquire was selling it. Mine went for a pitiful amount on Ebay in the end, then got scrapped shortly after (not by me I might add). Massive friggin waste if you ask me.

I had a Mk1 Astra SR back in the 90's, and it was ACE. Lumpy cam, uprated suspension. Went like stink, and cornered like a cart. One of the few cars I'd have another of. Loved it.
