for some strange reason i really want a Simca/Talbot either Alpine/Solara/Tagora not fussed but not the arse end of the range

our 1997 Passat 1.9TDi has done 457,000kms and counting, my old golf mk2 had 400,000 on it to, mileage isnt really an issue here like the uk, the french like to think that its now running in

The point I was making is that these rattled like hell when new - so now after nearly 130,000 miles it's going to be vocal! But - when did you last see one? It's a "GT" spec, which must be rare. Got to be bought...

this may be 'the one' all depends on pending sales really and what the owners would like (i'm hoping less than €100 as its going to a *cough* enthusiast) rather than the normal €1000 they normally ask for basket cases

And it has a spare if your ears cant take the current engine! At that price, you have to get it.Heres hoping you do.

This sounds whispery quiet to me, but I'm used to an old Peugeot diesel with injector knock.

Oh that's so got to be done! Either one!

Both!!

Sorry but this would easily be the best car you've ever owned! From an Autoshite perspective anyway, deep respect 8)

Good luck! When I were a lad, one of the local 'peasant' farmers had a really early one, which he drove everywhere in 2nd gear (i.e. 4000 decibels of valve clatter), it was a right old shed, but looking back it couldn't have been more than a decade old.... My mates' mum had one too, in utterly dreadful condition, she chopped it in for an equally horrid early MG Metro. The world was a better place in those pre- carcraft/easy credit days.

It's probably about as noisy as a K Series VVC with 145,000 on the clock
