wuvvum Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Do these things not attract much of it then? £300 with 10 months' test seems cheap for something with a connection (however tentative) to the retro VW thing.
Milford Cubicle Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Yummy! What's under the bonnet?'80s Audis don't seem to attract much of the tax at all.
mirafioriman Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 They are a great car. Well put together, quite quick and economical. My Father and I have had a couple between us.Looks like a bargain!
wuvvum Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 What's under the bonnet?1588cc petrol. These are supposed to be quite fun to drive. I like it - like a bigger version of my old Jetta. Same colour too.
dollywobbler Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Don't think these Audi-yadoo's attract loads of attention. Shame really - it's a Golf for sensible people.
Milford Cubicle Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Injected? Should be pretty nippy either way, they are light cars.
retrogeezer Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 well, it was a steal at that price....shame no-one noticed it before today.
HillmanImp Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 They are nice cars. Quite nippy too. Had one when i was about 18 for a bit on a loan from someone.
wuvvum Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 well, it was a steal at that price....shame no-one noticed it before today.I did.
Rusty Pelican Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Where was it for sale , looks local to me , has it sold
retrogeezer Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 well, it was a steal at that price....shame no-one noticed it before today.I did.did you buy it?? I meant no one had posted it in the ebay thread (not that I noticed anyhoo)
Guest Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Can't wait to see it with cut springs and matt black with a load of skateboarding stickers in the window! On second thoughts, I could wait. Many years in fact.Nice buy Wuvvum - I like these.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 That does look like a barg! Someone is selling an almost identical one on R-R, they've a £900 scene levy on top of the cost of this one though.
Owain-328i Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 These are still a classy car i reckon in original un-scened condition.
garethj Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Someone who knows more than me will confirm the 1600 didn't roll on those alloys originally, otherwise it looks very standard. LovelyStirling Moss himself drove one, there can be no higher recommendation (other than a Hirst Used Cars Seal Of Guaranteed Satisfaction For You And Yours)
pogweasel Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 That is well nice!£300 for any old rammle with t&t is good going. For a class old Audi it's gr8 val-u.
wuvvum Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Someone who knows more than me will confirm the 1600 didn't roll on those alloys originallyIt didn't. And it doesn't now - it's back on its original steels. Alloys come with it though, albeit with shagged tyres.
Guest Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Let's see some pictures of it on the steels! I'm sure you could get these with some kind of dog-dish hubcap setup.
Station Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Think it's just missed the scene tax because it has four doors and is a fairly recent Audi. Think the scene tax is only applied to cars that thousands of people own, ie Golf. I actually think this would look 'relevant' if it was 'lowered and riding on widened steel wheels/£1500 80's alloy wheels' with a silly roof rack and other 'relevant' crap stuck on.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Scene tax only seems to apply to stuff that was absolutely awful for body rot, slow and not hugley desirable when new - Minis, Mark 1/2 Scorts, Beetles and and those bastard Campers.Old Audis are worthy but dull. The 1600 petrols were lively though, as was the understeer in the wet. Audis don't seem to have any following at all apart from the odd 80's Quattro Turbo. They just seem to get old and then vanish whereas BMW's and Mercs linger on forever.

Would that be because RC is effectively PVW, and at some point they worked out they had to cover other stuff other than VWs? They had an Audi 80 on bags as well. And it had been RESPRAYED and had BBS ALLOYS on it. Shit the bed. The VAG crowd don't seem to do much with the old Audis other than air ride them. Air ride's pish anyway, it just looks like your uprights have collapsed.

Cavcraft Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Do these things not attract much of it then? £300 with 10 months' test seems cheap for something with a connection (however tentative) to the retro VW thing.Had one (yonks back) and probably one of the worse cars I ever owned. hateful, unreliable heap of shit. Weighed one in year before last that was quite low miles and unabused and it gave me great pleasure smashing it up. Soz for being a misery arse but cannot stand the bastard things.
Rusty Pelican Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Had a series 2 sport , nice motor but the engine overhang made the steering feel a bit wierd and this wasnt helped by being FW drive , got a Quattro series 2 after this , now THATS a CRACKING car
Station Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 My mate had a darker green one last year (and had it for 5 years), before trading it in against an over-priced, horrible 2005 GREEN bog standard A6 petrol. Remember thinking how unremarkable it was. Engine was 'longtitudinal' and surprised at it being rwd, which it wasn't!
stormee Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 These are very similar to MK2 Passats, I once had a 1.6 carb one, drove decently but nothing more. Try any 5 pot B2 Audi/Passat... I have a Passat 2.2E for my daily and I really love the smoothness, the note and its response. The 4 pots are reliable, slightly better on MPG but simply not comparable. Audi 80 in GL spec are nice, forget about the CL, but the nicest ones are the CD which came with the 1.9 115bhp 5 pot engines.
TheScrapman Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I had one about 10 years ago for a few weeks. One of the two fwd cars I've owned. Only crap picture I can find of it: It had 57k, 1 owner 1.6 auto with the greenest interior of any car ever made ever. Green seats, green dash, green gear lever - even the switches were green. They must have had such a vast parts bin when building these things. I think I paid £300 for it then. Went well enough though, and good on fuel, but for some reason it was astronomical to insure. So it did one naughty uninsured mission from Andover to Norwich and was sold on to an old learner driver...
