AWOOGA! Trouser tent moment there after looking at the estate and the Equipe. Wasn't there a thread on the interwebz somewhere about the Equipe recently by the way, same highly restored car that was on eBay?Bloody fantastic looking thing, though the estate is the absolute epitome of this forum to me, it's fugging ace!

Posted

Hey guys /girls,Yes the Equipe was that very one on ebay and car and classic and was also the car on classic gear, although i am a little embarraced about the classic gear thing because i looked fat and camp lol

Oh sorry i missed the comments about the Escort estate, yes it was an ex BT car and it still wears its original pressed metal plates!!New best buddies are very much welcome incidently lolAlso was reading some of the old posts on here, did anyone save that Yreg Talbot solara??,i hope so,it might be shit but doesn't deserve scrapping!!,anyone know its fate??cheersRichie :D

I am loving your allegros.A question... what attracts you to them?and im not saying that like i hate them, i would love to own one one day!but you clearly have quite a thing for them!

Posted

That white one is the shizz!!!11!!!!!!! Love the BT Escort too, I can remember seeing those around :)

Brammy Allegro's are not bad to drive-and good on fuel and look kinda cute. They are the British Leyland underdog 8)

Posted

I personally always liked the allegro, and they didnt rust half as bad as other cars of the era.Definitely would have sold better, had the media at the time treated it bettr.

Hi Brammy,I think i have psycological problems which is probably the easiest way to answer that question lolNo seriously i have always liked any cars that people hated,i loved having the banter of people taking the piss when i worked at the garages in the pastI was 13 and at school and my friends Mum and Dad owned one and they were going to sell it and i wanted it as it was going to get scrapped!!I was completely obssesed with it and i saved every penny i could to buy it when their Son took it out and it got written off, needless to say i was devastated ,it became my mission to find another one as that one was too far goneFast forward a few years on i managed to save 4 Allegro estates but i was still only 15 ,when my Dad and his brother (Fu*#ers!!) got rid of them down the auction against my wishes,it took me 3 months to speak to my Dad after that as i was gutted!!Unfortunately ever since then and being that much older (31) i am out of control with my cars as a kind of Kiss my arse you can't touch them now sort of way lolIt is any car i feel sorry for or i have some sort of memory link with that appeals to mehope that makes sense???cheersRichie :D

it does make alot of sense :) But its nice to see you clearly have a massive passion for them.Thats what counts. You must tell us the story behind them all(sorry to keep asking for more, im just interested)

Welcome although im new here myself , love the equipe , that was a special edition wasnt it , Had a marina SYC 979M for a good while , bloody indistructable B series lumps those , least i could nt kill it which is rare for me , I too always liked the underdogs , every one of my mates in the early 80s wanted minis so i bought ----------- A Sunbeam Stiletto . I can still see my old mans shocked face . On a technical question and to dispel or proove urban mith is it true Allegros are more airodynamic going backwards and that the rear windows fall out going backwards over rough ground , If true i dont care , still love them and if not them bollocks to them all , A true collection of great shite by the way , wish i had the room

Makes perfect sense to me :D that's usually the reason I buy old, non-running and sometimes rotten motors.Love you Allegro collection 8) , I'd love a VDP 1500 (if you can still get them).Welcome aboard...

A Very Warm Welcome from me as well, what a great collection of shite! Seven Allegro estates, how fab! Can I have one?

If I ever own an Allegro it would be an estate. Great stuff!

i'm with you on that - always fancied the estate version, theres one drives around leeds (or did, havnt seen it for 12 months or so) was held togther with gob and duck tape and finished in Dulux apple white

Hi Guys,Yes the Allegro Equipe was a special edition although the real story was they exported lots of 2 door shells to belguim, the shoddilly built them from kit, very badly and to try and sell them they put graffics on the sides ,painted them silver put a twin carb 1750 engine, black headlining ,alloys and series 3 front skirt to try and shift them, needless to say they didn't ,they sat in a field hence why there isn't many left, last count just around 10 left afaik??MY first car at 14 was a marina estate so thats the reason for marinas,my Dad had a Datsun 120a estate when i was quite young hence the Datsun i haveI owned a GSA estate but had a bad experience with it (it was really rough),so i needed an other to right that bad memory,The escort estate was my late Grandads and Late uncles so sentimental reasons, the Alfasud sounds amazing and is just the horniest car ever to drive!!And thats pretty much it really ???lolcheers Richie :D

Far better reasons than ive got for owning imps , they were cheap unloved shite at the time ( some say they still are  ) Less than 10 Equips left , surprised your selling

All the silly storys about Allegros were rubbish and unfoundedThey were not quicker in reverse, windows didn't pop outThey did rust though especially the front panel and they could be unreliable if they were poorly maintained when not old though,i found out the hard way i bought a right shed and relied on AA all the time lolcheersRichie :D

Urban myth does do a shite load of damage and people still quote it now , had the same with Imps , if i got a quid for everytime someone mentioned headgaskets / waterpumps / bags of sand in the boot id be able to buy all your lovely cars all at once. Welcome underdog keeper , long may we prosper where other ignorant sods fear to go. :D

Yeah totally Rusty i have heard all the crap stories about imps,it made me laugh really because they are cool carsA good friend of mine sold a sunbeam imp sport recently ,now i am no expert on imps but i was told they are super rare?I think they are dead cute,i am glad you like them because they were good comfortable carsI would love an Hillman Avenger which is from the same stable, but that won't happen until a few cars get sold which is the plan as someone said it is hard to keep on top of all of them which you actually can't really!! I had a lady come in last week and offered me a d reg ford capri 1.6 laser, the poor old girl is quite rusty so probably won't go for it,also she wants to much for it £500 with near to no mot or tax,is that excessive??cheersRichie :D

I'm sure she won't like you saying that about her... I remember getting offered a crapi 1.6 laser about 5 years ago, It was quite tatty but had 7 or 8 months MOT and the bloke wanted £150 for it, and i tuned it down.
Posted

LOL  Yeah i felt it was quite expensive for a car you would class as a condition 3 in practical classicsI would imagine that is a crap model only being a 1.6 is that right?cheers Richie :D Ps anyone know about that Talbot Solara??

Posted

Yes mateThere was an old post on hear about a Talbot solara that needed a new home from a scrap yard in scotlandI wondered what happened to it?,they are so rare, infact i can't remember when i last saw one or an early Chrysler Alpine???Anyone have one on here??cheersRichie :D

Screw me gently and call me Terence, what a fantastic assortment of classic shite you have there and I mean that in the nicest possible sense, what I like about your collection is that they're cars that A-aren't dull MGB type pipe-and-beard cars and B-what was once everyday cars that are now virtually extinct, people over a certain age will remember a time when Allegros were everywhere and again nice one for tackling that Equipe-thats some dedication right there, did you do the work yourself?

I was offered a VDP Allego last week by a mate I hadn't seen in a while, I am hugely tempted as my grandparents had one when I was a kid and I was a fan of the rear walnut picnic tables, in fact I think they are extrodinarily nice for that size of vehicle, I can't think of any other small luxuary cars of that time that were mass produced-only the older ADO16s.

Great GSA you have, I am really getting into 70s & 80s Citroens big time, nice that you included an interior shot too as it shows that its just as mad inside, much like a miniature CX really.
