What car would you buy next...

My cravings for a B2 Audi Coupe or Quattro Coupe have never gone away. It's nearly a year since I was on the verge of bidding for one just before I plumped for my R9 but the hankering is still there....My hankering for a nice 'future shite' vehicle which ticks all my boxes is still very much the last model Mitsubishi Galant, post Millennium if poss, although pre 51 reg for tax reasons. If I find myself with £4-5k I'll be upgrading that to a VR4 for sure 8)

Hmmmm, a pile of cash you say? Well, if I could have a few grand to buy something 'nice' then I'd be mostly wanting --Renault 12 - Gordini is probably too far away from being shite so a nice TL or TS would doMk1 Renault 5 TXAlfa Sud Sprint (none rusty, working electrics)Citroen CX (again, it'd need to be working)Old Peugeots - 304 / 104 ZS / 505 that sort of thing...Citroens -- 2CV or Mehari plz.Another Alfa 145 Cloverleaf - one that doesn't ruin me this time.Any of the above would do :D

The Skoda stealers just outside Ely (so not that far from you) has one identical to that in the showroom. They have had it for years and years so I doubt it is for sale.

Who would of bought these when they were new? Were they much cheaper than a 1300 Capri?

Wicked irony. There are 1.2 billion of these in America, and enough V6 models (did I mention petrol is about 50 pence per litre here?) that there's no reason to settle for a 2.2.

Meanwhile, if I could get my hands on a Peugeot 406 or a Skoda of any kind I'd be the happiest guy in NY.

Yup. According to my copy of CAR, November 1976, the cheapest 1300 Capri was a shade over 2 grand, while one of these was £1500.
