You can't really go wrong with a Canon, but weren't you after a digital camera?

don't tell me it takes a film :o i did look at some pikey digitals but havent got a ton to spend on a new one, i prefer the solid build of SLR's and with a big camera when at shows people tend to 'move' out of the way

It's definitely a film camera. If only you could pick up a digital SLR for 55 Euros. :(

If you want to be really imposing, why don't you buy a traditional large format camera?

All of those are fairly primitive and/or basic 'point and shoot' cameras. It sounds like you want something more than that. The Sony ought to be alright though, my friend has a similar one and it takes cracking shots.

As recommended before and liked by all those that bought it...the Fuji S5800 is a great camera but I can't find new ones on Amazon anymore.. :?

Stunning......I wish I could get my other half to move to France..

I've been there, awesome place.I have the older Fuji SS5700 and it's very good indeed.

Canon G7 would've fitted the bill, compact enough to take anywhere with 10MP sensor, I've got one being a seasoned clicky and I'm most impressed with it and it has all the features of a digital SLR including a hot-shoe and being superceded by the G9 and G10 I expect they'll be cheap.I can't quite bear to get shot of my old manual Nikon gear especially as my 1970s FM and Olympus OM1 & 2 will still produce excellent results.Hey I have a good quality film scanner if you're interested? then you'd have the best of both worlds and a great quality digital pic at the end, if not it might be worth looking out for a film scanner over there.
