My god  Ugh what Phoenix did to that company sickens me, they truly had no clue.

Hey, I'd drive this.

(Once it's reached the bottom of it's depriation curve - large 4x4 from Korea, badged MG, so about a week tuesday....)

It's not that bad, I quite like those Ssangyongs. The alloys and new grille improve it quite a bit.

weird how its like full circle though....MG Rover( Or Austin Rover) first started independantly with co development with Honda, and then ends with rebadging (or was to) more Asian cars..... Still, if it had been badged BMW, people would have bought them.

The 'co-development' with Honda was really just taking Hondas, Rover-ising them and wanging in a few British engines.

Its a bit on the Ugly side, but probably would have been a worthy addition to their pitiful line up.Having got up close and personal with a Cityrover recently, I can confirm what killed MG Rover. What a pile of shit! Sub Daewoo quality, probably sub Perodua too.No wonder they went tits up.I wonder where they would be if Honda had taken control instead of being muscled out by BMW?

This is what I mean by the title of the thread. Rover was a prestige marque, until the 213 I recon. Plonking a Rover badge on the tarted up metros did a lot of damage to the Rover name, as did the Shitty Rover. I recon an MG badge on this might well have fooked the MG marque's credibility.Hypothetically of course!

No bad thing. Certainly improved the quality.

Another master stroke from Rover (or whatever they are):1. Produce a 4x4 people carrier when no other marque is offering them (especially -better- ones),2. Design it so it looks unique, and not some Malaysian design cockpiss,3. Manufacturer it so it looks like it's made from metal, and not moulded plastic,4. Market it so it doesn't fall flat on it's face, making sure you don't ride on a sea of contraversial-ness for free publicity.

Rover - traditionally upmarket saloons, cars to aspire to own.MG - traditionally 2-seater sports cars, something for the weekend (Sir).Where on earth did a plastic soft-roader fit into this? This is why everything went tits up. They wanted to do lots of things all at the same time, and none of them well. Stick to sportscars and aspirational saloons and make them really good ones.Next, TVR start making a range of panel vans and pickups.

The rub is it would have easily sold 4 years ago. People would be buying them now if they were priced right....
