Shite dreams

Dreams are funny things...

Years ago, even before my teens, I did have a recurring dream which I could never figure out what it was about but kept on having it for about three years. I was actually driving (silly, I know...) in a strange deserted town in which I had no idea where I was. It was also the middle of the night for some reason. I wanted to get out of the town, but every single route I went down, I was eventually met with a huge brick wall which blocked my path. For hours I'd drive around and find the same scenario down every possible route which exited this odd town. I distinctly remember driving a 'Y' reg solid beige Sierra hatchback with the dangily mirrors and it only had about 1/8 of a tank of fuel left. From memory, I think it had a GL interior.

Another odd one that I can recall having several times, although nowhere near as often or as prolonged as the Sierra one, was coming across a four door HC Viva in either yellow or beige (can't quite remember) with a black vinyl roof parked up at the side of a road. As I approached it on the pavement, it suddenly burst out into flames which the mini-explosion knocked me to the floor. I can still remember the sheer heat, which felt as if it was burning my face. What made this dream even more odd is that I actually knew this was going to happen, but still every time I had this dream, I knew the Viva was going to burst into flames when I got to about 10/15ft from it - yet I still approached with caution.

I think I can explain this one though. My father used to work for a firm which was located on a Cul-de-sac a few hundred yards long and not really overlooked. People used to park cars along one side of it, sometimes for my father’s works and sometimes for the indoor swimming pool opposite. Anyway, one day a burnt out car suddenly appeared parked up which had badly charred the road and pavement around it. Obviously joy riders who’d dumped it there overnight and had torched it. It was literally nothing more than a mildly distorted shell. It sat there for several weeks and the local plod didn’t seem to want to bother with it. In the end, the fork lift from the works was sent round to it, picked it up and it was dropped into one of the very large waste skips which were around the back of the building (they could have swallowed a couple of cars whole...). Of course over time as the waste built up around it, it was eventually crushed down and taken away with the rest of the rubbish. What car was it? A four door HC Viva...

This would have been in the very early nineties. Every time I've seen a burnt out car, this dream always comes to mind.

I've had odd'n'ends of car/bike/truck dreams, mostly because they're in my blood.

The really odd one is the 'engine head people'. They look exactly like people, except they have engines where their heads should be.

The first thing that come to my head when I read this was

from the computer game Silent Hill! Very creepy indeed. This did give me a few nightmares, I'll admit!

Look at your reflection in a shop window next time.

You might have an engine for a head!

I tried working on 'lucid dreaming' just to get a handle on it. And I can say, without a shadow of doubt, that every time, I'm just me. It's probly a reflection of the fact that, coming from an engineering background, I prefer mechanical stuff to people, most of the time!

There was also the recurring dream, more recently, in which an old woman in traditional Breton dress, knocks the door of my caravan (I'm pretty sure it's one of those old Sprite thingys) and offers me a bunch of bananas for my car. That's probly just down to my subconscious being brutally realistic!

I'm too old to dream, I have trouble just remembering these days. :(
