Citroen C2 snapped timing belt - should I have a go at fixing

The TU engine is quite easy to work on, I’d whip the head off, see if there’s any damage and swap the head complete with valves if the piston crowns are OK. Discount code for Euro Crap parts/autodoc you should be able to get it running again for around £100-150

You don't mention if it is an 8v 1.4 or a 16v 1.6

The latter is more expensive a repair unless using a part-worn head. 

You'll need a head gasket set, timing belt kit with tensioners and a water pump. 

Make sure all the debris from the old belt is removed.  Timing hole for the crank is behind the cap for the oil filter housing. 

Check the sills are alright before even considering it.

single cam , 8 valve head , should be ok to lift ,

just wondering if it will need skimming ...

I know a place in Bootle that will skim it. I would say 100%.

Would it need skimming though? it not like the head gasket has gone causing it to overheat, so in theory the head should still be flat.

In theory yes you may be correct. No history of being overheated etc... examine head machined face, no pitting or other damage... throw a steel rule across the face and check its square. Always worked for me

had a word with a tame mechanic and he advised not going the fix it route ....

and then arranged a 200 note scrappage for me with a mate , which is a lot more than I was expecting !!

and the new wiper blade on the C2 fitted our C1   ,, win wiin !!

It's my opinion that it's never worth fixing a C2 because they rot so prolifically. Mine rotted away sat in a relatively dry unit for a year.
