They're talking up here about introducing a toll charge for crossing any of the bridges over the Tyne. Between £1.70 and £10 a crossing is proposed. I guess that would be the death of the city centre.

Very rare thet I venture over the Tyne.  I did last week but first time this year and only about three times last year.  (used to work in Jesmond)

I was planning a visit to the Dala restaurant on the quayside. I'll park at The Sage and walk over the Millenuiumin Bridge :)

Enjoy it while you can because if the charges come in, thousands and thousands of folk will be trying the same.

What does really piss me off is that to instal the rear facing cameras (presumably so the tfl can check bikes that enter the ULEZ) is/has cost £800 million. Plus all the costs to administer it. Fucking mental

Out of interest, do you have a source for that? I'm working on this sort of thing at the moment, and if that's right I reckon I've got my ANPR costs out by a factor of about 10.

Anyway, while I'm doing my 'transport planner going down like a fart in a lift' schtick:

Now trying to think as to why they have removed the exemption for cabs....to reduce congestion?? I can't see it easing congestion....there seems to be a bus for every person in London on the road! Take a drive down Park Lane right by the park there and you will 20-30 of them lined up normally at any one time!...but alas I digress. I could mention the roadworks they are doing along the Marylebone Road at the moment and the mayhem that is causing dropping three lanes down to one but I shan't! LOL!

As much as I love being part of a massive illuminati conspiracy - yeah, basically. Let's be really pessimistic and assume that those 20 buses are only 10% full. They're taking up 300m of Park Lane and moving 160 people. Now let's assume we're moving them by Prius. Average occupancy of a PHV in London is 1.6 passengers, assuming they have a fare. That means to move those same 160 people we need 100 Priuses (Prii?), which needs 600m of road.

I also spent more than a year at TfL trying to persuade the DfT to keep two lanes open during those roadworks, but we got overruled. Was that Grayling? Can't remember.

That would be nuts. How are they gonna implement that for the A1?

They aren't, just Scotswood, swing, Tyne.

The "unfair" lez suggestions would be easier for me, because I'd just use the LEAF all the times I actually go into town.

Its just another stepping stone towards the death of the diesel and petrol engine shortly after.

Trolley buses

Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan needs to bring back Trolley buses. And perhaps even trolley lorries that can make use of overhead cables to run / charge batteries whilst in town
