I had a poke around an 05 example of the above recently and was amazed by how various features of it seemed to belong to a car at least 10-15 years older than the plate suggested. Oddly appealling, I thought.

I've been eye-ing that Crown Vic up for a while. I agree that it's probably the only American car I'd consider.

Don't have £2000 though :-(

I wish those door mounted keypads had found their way onto the UK Fords.

what are they all abput? do you need a combination rather than a key?

Exactly. Ford USA "keyless entry system".

Not compliant with EU regulations, hence it never made it to European Ford products.

Surely tapping in a pin, is more faff than using a key !?!

The code for the pad is written on a sticker on the door lock ECU

And the owner is hence supposed to change it to a personal one asap.

The system is far superior to the conventional keys/locks customary at the time of its introduction in the early Eighties.

However, it clashes with a EU directive that makes it an offense to be not in the possession of a spare key, thus it never became available on Euro Fords.

They have other benefits.

  • You can lock your keys in the car if you're going swimming in the sea
  • Feel cool using it

Admittedly it's mainly that last one.
