eBay tat volume 3.

When I briefly worked as a 'proper' mechanic the second job I had to do was an engine swap on one of those, it was only about 4 or 5 years old at the time. I buggered on and swapped it over, fitting a low mileage s/h unit from a crashed Fiat regatta TD meaning pretty much every little external gribbit on he engine needed swapped over. Anyway i eventually got it together and took it for a blezz up the road, got about 2 miles then the not-tightened crankshaft pulley bolt came loose, sent all the timing to cock and bent most of the valves

Even better news on the Marbella situation, the insurance is much less than what I am currently paying on the non-road worthy lancia so the money I would save in swapping would pay or most of my transport costs. Also, I gather from his marvellous description, which is written with all the eloquence of an octopus having a epileptic fit on the keyboard, that it has a tow bar and he is also selling the non-MOT'd Porsche 924 sat behind it for £300. Maybe a spot of long distance A-framing would be in order?

To resurrect an old catchphrase, I'd definitely hit that. The 800 looks gorgeous in nightfire red.

Seriously tempted by making my first shite buy with one of those German market Asconas.

The Rekords look hot too, but I'm a bit squittish about being sucked down in to the bowels of hell to be tortured for all eternity by a murder of possessed child manaquins.

Q: Please do not put message on listing could you give me full address as I'm looking into costings of travel and would you be able to meet me at the port your end. Did you manage to remove my previous question 07-Jun-12

A: sorry cannot do that . now considering blocking you from bidding.

Q: Hi There tends to be a frenzy at the last minute when it comes to bidding. How are you going to police this as bids will hopefully be coming in every 10 sec or so right at the end? In an ideal world, I can see that requesting bidders to contact you before placing a bid is a gentlemanly way of conducting business but many seasoned bidders will just hit the button at the 11th hour ! Maybe its better to stipulate that bidders with feedback of less than 5 will have their bids cancelled ?? This leaves "good bidders" with a better chance of completing the auction. Hope Dave goes to a good home BTW, one where it will be cherished for next 40 years ! Good luck 07-Jun-12

A: Hi 710sss I was intending to that - I will do what you advised & stipulate that feedback of less than 5 will have their bids cancelled. How I police this I really don't know. I will contact eBay today to ask that question. I'm also a little confused why so many potential bidders request their questions not to be posted on listing?? Getting a little fed up with all the secrecy!! Yes I tried to make it gentlemanly but I'm not naive about eBay - there are a few idiots who try it on & ruin for everyone else. Those I will report- Yes I hope Dave goes to a good home & someone puts £ to give full refurb. I like cars as stock not tampered with. Dave is very original which I think is great. The way things are going Dave may stay in my Garage for this winter . But I as stated I haven't got the time to give & that would be such a shame. Dave needs to be out there & driven. Thanks again Regards R

Q: Think u better delete / cancel any bids by zero rated bidders as I am not gonna be messed about in getting this and it's unfair if any dodgy bids are used to bump up the price thanks 06-Jun-12

A: Done - Nor I'm I

Q: I know what you mean it's happen to me many occasions and there usually the problem ones that don't buy or don't contact after sales 06-Jun-12

A: I will spend a few hours tomorrow going through the genuine bidders - it's bloody stupid, More than Happy to keep to Dave!! Regards

Q: Hi R, I am contacting you as I would like to place a bid on dave, I do not wish for others to know that I am bidding on dave Regards Ricky 06-Jun-12

A: Hi R - You already offered me an offer outside eBay - so please bid if only a serious buyer. I have been emailed by an anonymous person about the Datsun forum and the comments made. Please respect the eBay rules. Thanks for the interest. Cheers R

Q: Hi, Just contacting you as requested before I bid on the car. What do you need to know about why I want this car? I am happy to let you know why I would buy the car, but not other bidders. Cheers, Nik 05-Jun-12

A: Hi Nik It be good to know why you want to buy - I won't post it if you do. Cheers R

Q: hi please make sure this 180b goes to a good home.this was my very first legal car.[1979 yellow]fast comfy and a pleasure to drive.dont let it go for pee nuts.its got to be worth 9 gran- regards mike 05-Jun-12

A: Hi Mike - The 79 yellow was a nice car - I owned a 160JSSS Coupe 77 yellow in the 1980s. Old Dave is a rare car & great fun to drive. I'll do my best with the new owner - I hope it will go to someone who will keep it's originality - The previous owner has to take all the credit for keeping this car on the road. I feel your estimate might be a little high. But if someone is willing to pay it they surely will intend to look after it. Regards

Q: Just thought I'd drop you a line before the inevitable bidding war begins on your Datsun. I already have a '74 260Z which I reckon I'd sell if I won so I can take my young family out rather than it being a bit of lonely hobby at the moment! Great car, just wanted to say hello before it ends and hopefully see you when I've won it! Jim 04-Jun-12

A: Evening Jim - The UK has gone mad for 180b Datsuns (-: Nice car 74 260z but the 180b coupe is so much better. This may sound a little melodramatic but I really do hope Dave goes to a good home. The car is what it is - warts & all (-: I'm still a little taken back - the interest is amazing. A little concerned about genuine bidders - I did request bidders contact me first but this has been ignored by a few. I think I will have to demand that they do. I'm more than happy to keep old Dave - But storing isn't really a good option - he needs to be out there & enjoyed. One chance in a life time to own such a rare car. Thanks for the interest & good luck

Q: Hi mate, I know I have been questioning alot but I must stress to you how much I am interested in the Datsun. Can I request some extra photos to my email address of all areas especially the paintwork and interior. I'm sure you are aware of of the messers on eBay, they buy and then mess about at the end. I also understand it is a mission as your in isle of wight but my passion for the 180b over looks this. i already have 3. I could offer 3,000 cash to complete transaction and no messing about. 04-Jun-12

A: Hi It can sometimes be a mission to travel to the Isle of Wight but hey it's not France (-: Thank you for the offer but please remember it's an Auction. Sorry it will go to the bitter end. If someone wants to waste their time & mine so be it. As stated I will pursue all non paying bidders for my final fee. I'll just keep the car/one off auction never to be again. Thanks for the interest

Q: Would u be interested in any other Datsun as swap or p/ex? I have the four door 610 in yellow yes Not for sale though Can I have ur mobile so we can talk Thanks Tahirzafarshah 03-Jun-12

A: Hi Thanks for your interest - I've been overwhelmed by people wanting to make me an offer. I'm happy to talk to anyone about the car - I do not want to swap or buy another car. I'd certainly keep Dave the Datsun if I did - Thanks R

Q: What time is good for you to have a viewing? 03-Jun-12

A: Hi are you local? Viewing is recommended before buying any car. It all depends what your motives are? Sorry but had lots of emails & interest - offers etc etc. Little fed up with it. The old datsun is out of garage at mo, kept it in over winter. Now it's outside & has car cover. So if weather is bad I won't be uncovering for anyone (-: Cheers R

Q: Is the car in Hampshire or isle of wight 02-Jun-12

A: Isle of Wight - So the winning bidder will have to bare that in mind. Ferry cost etc... I'm happy to help out but due work I can be limited to time. Cheers R

Q: Ok I will just bid on it. Just some questions for you Does it leak oil Would it make it back to London Any welding need doing Thanks Ricky 02-Jun-12

A: Hi Oil leaks - I've had a tray underneath - Since driving to MOT which is about 20miles there & back I can't see any. I can't see why it wouldn't make it back to London. It does get a bit juddery after 10-15 mniles and clears on acceleration - like fuel or dirty carb. Someone pin pointed it may be spark leads need replacing. Otherwise it goes very well. It has half a tank of super+ in tank. Please remember I don't drive it much. That's why I'm selling. Cheers R

Q: I'm to very shocked in how much the car is up to. If you can give a price then let me know I will come over cash today to pick up. Thanks ricky 02-Jun-12

A: Hi Even if I had a price for buy it now I'd be mad not to let auction run. Yeah slightly bemused by it all. My mate & his son think I'm crazy selling. I want it bought by someone who will keep it as near original as they can. The car deserves it. I'm being told by eBay users & my friend that this car is so Rare-due to the year & model. It can only go up in value?? Thanks for the interest. R

I messaged the guy about this Tipo, just out of interest. He's got it advertised elsewhere for 500 and if my eyes don't deceive me its got 29k on the clock, bargain!

I'm at tat overload or I'd be on my way to Surrey ... oh, hang on I'm working down that way tomorrow ... must resist

Your eyes don't deceive you, but in the info at the top, he honestly states it's done 129k. There's something very lovable about that car though...

The sex! First I've seen too that hasn't been a Polish import, cheap but no MOT

Here's a far better looking barge though.

£500 bin with tax and MOT seems very fair to me. There's a fairly easily fixable list of MOT advisories from the last text and no pictures of the o/s but I'd defo be all over this if it were nearer etc.

Did we end up with pretty much RHD US Spec 240's in that period then? Just little things like the running lights on the rear quarters, 'Parking Brake' on the warning lamps rather than a symbol, Sealed beam headlights etc. kinda point in that direction.
