As spake by the prophets, thou shalt buy a car cheap, spend a load of money on it and then sell it for cheap.  This is how you enter the kingdom of heaven, and it's a lot less fiddly than the whole camel through the eye of a needle thing.

 

The downside is that as soon as you've sold it, prices rocket and you've missed the boat if you want to own another.  I thought three grand was a lot of money to spend on an old Defender, but look at where prices are about 18 months after I sold mine.

 

£4500 and it doesn't even have an MoT!

Seven grand for this chequerplated monster, other than the riveted on tat it looks alright and at least it fucking goes, but seven grand!

This is the thick end of four grand!  Don't give me that crap about "they're just like meccano kits, it all unbolts".  Yes it does, but it still costs time and money to replace all those parts and I don't think I'm being unreasonable that a car costing almost four thousand pounds should be driveable.  It's not a brand new Ferrari for Christ's sake, it's a 17 year old Land Rover.

LandRover prices are just stupid. Discoveries onwards were crap anyhow, and if anyone wants to pay £7,000 for a Series 3 that does 45mph flat out and rusts like there's no tomorrow, then good luck to them. I'd love one, but it's just ridiculous the money they fetch.

Worth it if it's as good as it looks. I'm tempted- my initials are ROM.

However, this is the same guy who was selling my old DTR CX as a solid straight usuable car for £3000. As such I'd check for rust, very very carefully.
