I've always wanted one of these, and this is only the second one I've seen here. But it would be deeply irrational to buy it. And it looks like it has one of those plastic front wings....I bet its a wreck really. Isn't it

And its on an island as well

A very good friend of my mum had one from new. He never drove it, it was always garaged and had blankets over the seats, and he cycled to work in the hospital. When he retired in the 80s my mum did a tapestry for him including his Capri which she had sat in as student in the 60s. It was his baby really. Anyway, when he died with no family my dad thought he'd offer something for the car ( mid nineties now). Turned down by the executor saying it had to go auction. But it didn't, and the brother of the executor bought it for a song.

I have all his chemistry text books but it's still annoying that we don't have the car because of a fiddle.

Very odd looking thing, bonnet badge and wierd front lights suggests South African, and something tells me this may be an ID rather than a DS - not going to put money on that though.

All DSs had those extra lights. Smiths dials and leather make it a Slough car, but I think it's a manual DS rather than an I'D which makes it quite a rare thing. Can't actually see if it has a clutch pedal or not so maybe not.

That gear lever sprouting from the top of the steering column says semi-auto to me.  Same setup as the Pallas I had.

Did the IDs ever get the semi-auto 'box though?

Only the estates ( in the UK ), this has the DS dashboard for sure but I thought series 1 did not have round dials. Also series 1 did not have that odd light arrangement.

There's a good explanation of the different light arrangements here - http://www.citroenclassics.co.uk/showroom.php

Mine is a series 3 Pallas manual.

Yeah but it's not a series one is it, it's just a normal post '64 facelift ('series two') model. Some didn't have the extra lights, but most did.

I used to know a bloke who was adamant his Range Rover did over 30mpg. God knows how as my 3.5 was pretty good to get just over 20. (It had a full sports exhaust and sounded better than my mates TVR so I didn't drive it gently) The 3.9's were far worse on fuel so it is possible with an early 3.5 injection that he could get 24 driving it normally.

All men lie about two things.  One is their car's MPG.
