they 'bought this in error' from a car auction. How the pissing hell you buy a car in error is beyond me

I did that once - I'd just got to the auction when a Bedford Rascal van was driving through, I put my hand up thinking I was bidding on that, but I wasn't and I ended up accidentally winning a completely different car.  It's easily done (if you're a bit of a plonker).

 

 

Fortunately the car that I ended up inadvertantly buying was a maroon D reg Seat Malaga 1.5 GLX, so it ended up being one of the better mistakes of my lifetime.
