214 Convertible that needs a head gasket repair. £150!

My dad recently showed me the receipt for his first car-an a40 bought in 1962 I think. He got rid of it eventually ( the handbrake pulled out of the floor once) when it needed four tyres and none were available-early warning of the fuel crisis or something.

That's nice, and I feel really bad for immediately thinking that its wheels and lights/bumpers/bonnet/grill/wings would look excellent on the 220, right colour and everything.  It might also supply a decent driver's door solenoid, clock and door mirrors to replace the broken ones on mine.

Mind you, I suppose I could put the 220's shabby and more modern/less pretty/broken bits back on the convertible and then fix the engine so it wouldn't actually have to die.

Hmm.

I still feel bad for thinking about it.

I nearly bought that 214 convertible a few months back when HGF wasn't an issue, but was still put off. I think it was the low mileage and lack of recent use or something. Glad I left it!

If it's still around in a few weeks when I have more space I'd be tempted, looks a nice tidy little thing and in reality it'd be a shame to pull its face off for the sake of putting the bits on the 220 when it doesn't really need them (I just think the earlier ones look better without the chrome nose).

Anyone in Sussex got a bit of storage space for a few weeks? :)

Those 600s are a nice, comfortable thing and should presumably be pretty well screwed together, being a Honda Accord and all.  Would the 620 be powered by T-Series goodness then or is it a Honda lump?

Honda engines in them 620's.

I've had two and also the identical Accord. Not bad cars, boring though.

When we had the really bad winter at beginning of 2010 up here, my 2 year old Vectra couldn't even get off the drive it was that bad. My £500 620Si did the 55 mile round trip every day for around 3 weeks and never once got stuck!

The dealer sticker in the rear window of that beige winnerwagon 240 really needs to be seen in full view to be appreciated. Quite a cool design but so massive, I'm surprised it wasn't ripped off after the first drive. Glad it wasn't, though.

It does.  It's also a bit of a bargain by today's standards, being only just over double what I sold mine for three years ago...  The autos aren't supposed to be all that great, but I still would if I had a spare two and a half bags laying around.

I've just been having a proper look at the pics of that 240 - it really is a stunner.  I thought it was going to be the usual slightly down-at-heel example with some hopeless dreamer expecting it to make his fortune - I still generally consider 240s to be a cheap banger, but I can honestly say I'd quite understand somebody paying £3K plus for that one.

The green A35 has gone in my watch list as from what I can see, it's not in all that much better condition than mine (although it's more complete), so it'll be interesting to see what it makes.

Morris Minor too modern for you?  Whitworth spanners burning a hole in your toolbox that you're itching for something nice to use them on?   Step this way:

And Mr Bo11ox, since we're doing this now, I'm afraid I find this car a little bit
