re- getting that minty mini-metro above, i think with an mot, and insurance, you send £55 to register the car and then £140 for years tax.

there is a form to fill in, and you need your driving license and passport with recent utility bill to prove your address.

though i don't suppose in practice it is that simple, especially now they have closed all the local offices......

He's had that metro on the blue forum for a while for about 11-1200 quid I think. I would say its a flippin barg even at that money. If you got that for a grand i reckon you could get twice that for it with UK plates and a years ticket on it, just for doing a bit of admin bollocks

Where would that metro stand with the NOVA regs? Would it need to take a hypothetical day trip to Calais?

Posted

i don't think the nova regs apply, as a private punter i wouldn't be vat registered, therefore i wouldn't be able to go down that route to register it.

You have to do a partial NOVA on the paper form, which is a bit of a war to actually get hold of (I was on hold for 35 mins to HMRC before I gave up) and you need some supporting evidence that it's been in the country since before the rules changed, plus all the normal stuff you need for a regular import, but theoretically it's a fairly straightforward process, as far as dealing government shitheels is ever gonna be straightforward.

There is a huge DVLA shitstorm on the horizon though, so if you wanna register something you best do it soon before they just stop the whole flipping process (which sadly looks like it may be the case. Q-plates for everyone)

Also VAT has nothing to do with it, you gotta do a NOVA regardless of who you are if you bring summat in from abroad!

I would say you have to be a right member to do that to a car....

I`m only joking, care in the community is a wonderful thing...

No, it's a different one.  There's a bit of a a pointy plastic bonus going on now, there was a running, MoT'd car sold last month for £700 which was back on last week for a grand, and this one helpfully listed in Everything Else/Other with a fucked Rover V8 and Junkman-approved gearbox that hasn't moved for 15 years.
