Correct, but I think they run in tandem, a lot of Japanese 4x4s have twin batteries.

 

 

I had a 3.3 Datsun Patrol with twin batteries, I'm sure it was 24 volt, I had to use 24 volt lorry bulbs for it anyway. 

 

BTW, it was a fucking heap of shit, desperately slow, uncomfortable, very rot prone. It would tow anything though.
