I wonder if her spouse has died or these cars were part of a divorce settlement? RX8 for a tenner?

OMGRB44!!! On £100 as I type this, although I can see that going up quite a lot before the auction finishes.

s-l1600.jpg

Under 10hrs to go and still £100, the Perkins phaser lump is worth a lot more than that, bargain time.

Mot exempted* because dodge 50 based and you could probably actually get away with the speciality vehicle classification exemption with 4x4 and winch

Edit looking at the mot history it's never been tested so probably has qualified for an exemption L272DHG

Buy it now someone please???

Kudos for having a floor pan made out of an old sideboard back and a greasy oven tray, plus an axle held on with rope

If my mate gets back to me before I go to bed with a decent quote to fetch it back, I'll lob a bid on it.

This looks to me like a 2006 lorry with an ill-fitting 1984 horsebox on it!!!

interior requires finishing i.e. carpeting the bulkhead and a mattress for the bed over the top of the cab

WTF!!!! You are supposed to sleep there??? Do you have to call someone to slot you in there at 10pm or something?

Horsey people would gladly sleep on a bed of nails as long as dobbin was happy.

I don't think Ministry tests for >3.5-tonne vehicles show up on "normal" MOT checker sites.

Looking at all those horse boxes lately, what you can live in in Spain, or any other godforsaken shithole,

those horses have it better than each and every human camper I've ever seen and actually quite a

sizeable proportion of the sedentary part of humankind.

Which strikes me as odd, since it is this how I prefer my horses:

it did the 2000 miles to Monaco & back faultlessly

Of course it did. It is a 90s car.

There's an air raid siren on the boot. (It did work but needs the wiring looking at)

Shit, it was embarrassing enough when my normal alarm went off at 2am.

Damn right. I bet you anything I have that I can do this with a 1920s car.

Let alone a mid Sixties Renault, which is a modern car considering

there hasn't been any progress whatsoever for the past half century.

He can't do it, it's too big for his truck :(

Could have been recreating the battle of the bean field with that later in the week :(

Doesn't mean it's gone now. You know how often eBay sales fall through. Nothing wrong with firing off a message.

Out of interest, to the uneducated like me, what is this Renault 4x4 lorry thing and why is it special?

Posted

It's an RB44 basically the final evolution of the dodge50 and a failed MOD funded project for a 4x4 bigger than a landrover but smaller than a lorry to essentially replace the landrover 101s.

They're fine if used regularly but when stored for significant periods they had issues with the brakes pulling badly to one side, there were several recalls and a court case about suitability for purpose I believe.

Van body ones are mega rare - I've never seen another, they were mainly chassis cabs.

They're also beloved by New Age travellers, showmen and hippy folk due to there simplicity, cheapness ability to be easily downplated and the fact that seemingly at least 80% of the ones remaining are registered in the Showmans taxation category so are mot exempted (on paper at least).

I like them because memories and I always wanted to be a crusty juggler with dreds living in a van with a dog on a string, ideally parking up wherever the surf is good and buggering off to Europe in it over winter :)

Unfortunately I'm now a responsible parent and don't have the space to have this parked up, given a friendly park up I would have been getting quotes to have it shifted.

There's some info on the Battle of the Bean field here

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Beanfield

Basically Thatcher had declared open season on those who didn't tow her line as she did to the Unions, the police were only to happy to once again wade in and dish out a kicking. Footage of the events went missing or was taken as evidence and not returned. It doesn't make pleasant reading especially the eye witness accounts.

Okay I now feel decidedly shitty.

How did I know nothing about this, I'm 30!

You weren't supposed to know about it, the government and police didn't want you to know any more than the edited highlights. Likewise the press.

With the advent of everybody carrying a camera and uploading stuff as it's taken hopefully this wouldn't be able to happen again now, although it is worth noting it is possible for the police to order sections of the mobile phone network shut down (this would prevent uploading) the Chinese people have developed an app to link phones without network coverage to spread information when their networks are taken down during demonstrations.
