I never have a lot of luck. I miss my old avensis in all honesty. One car I regret not fixing. Either way I can take car off th road a while anyway. Wife decided she is ready to go back to work so I won't be going far anyway. I'm just stressed with all this shit car malarkey. Remember kids buy cheap buy twice!

Back of fag packet calculations here but assuming clutch and release bearing is £80 or so, they’re charging you £170 labour which if I’m honest you aren’t going to get for less than that. I thought from reading your posts you received motorbility allowance, couldn’t you use that money?

I would go now and get a car on motability but I've less than a year on it and it's under review. Could be up to 8 weeks. Clutch kit on car is 59 quid so yes I see the point of price. I realize now it was a decent price. Looking back I should have rode out the motability car. I've had nothing but trouble since. 4 cars since August and I'm still no better out of it.

I’d be picking a bit more wisely, ignore the crap that’s wanting things doing to it.

That red Mondeo you had wasn’t a bad one.

After what I have spent on our passat since August I am now of the opinion people only sell because a humungus bill is impending.

There are plenty of decently functioning old cars out there, but anyone buying them really needs to be either

A: capable of fixing them when they break

B: Capable of paying for them to be fixed when they break.

I always tell everyone who buys a car to budget a minimum of £500/ year for repairs. Some years you'll be lucky, some you won't, so shove £10/week in a jar and hope you're one of the lucky ones.

At this end of the market, yes of course a lot of the times it is! Even if its an elderly person getting rid of their car (death or stopping driving) they is likely a big bill or many small ones once the miles are put onto it. Newer cars aren't necessarily any more reliable, but they have less wear on the parts and less likely owners/mechanics to have done bodging.

I know cars need money spending and I understand that. This year has just gone to shit since the start though. I've used the picasso today. Slipped a bit on boost but it all the time. I'm thinking I've maybe caught the clutch pedal causing it to overheat with my shitty leg as the footrest is quite close to the pedal and the pedal rubber was adrift.

A few weeks hopefully. Just hope it doesn't fail completely in meantime. I'm going to bleed it when I can as it's a bit spongy and the slave cylinder isn't the best.

No they can go on ages a slipping clutch until something hydraulic goes. Only issue there is it might want the flywheel refacing if you’ve gone for a long time on a fucked clutch.

What happened to the Berlingo? That looked good for the money or was it a pup?

Posted

I've PayPal you a little something, hopefully it might improve my karma lol

Berlingo was ok but had an engine fault we couldn't diagnose so sold it advertised with a running issue and rattling tensioner. Buyer text me two days later to tell me he had found the source of the rattle,it was the cambelt tensioner that failed and took engine out. When I sold it I advertised all its issues so I was honest as can be

My T4 , with a ton (  800kg, officer !   ) of stuff in it all the time , has slipped a little for 40k miles . As soon as the revs rise , back off .. I can still hurry along , I just get used to it  . Its on 185 k , original clutch , i had it from new . What fucked it was towing a horse trailer home.

It might be a bit of oil on the plate from the rear crank seal . Gigglepins Connect van had that trouble but it went on for years

Well I've got home and bled the clutch again. Loads of air and brown fluid. I think I'm going to replace slave cylinder and fluid change
