Sorry to hear of the problems but glad you will get it fixed. I’m very interested to learn what can be done to fix this sort of technology . I hope it’s not too ruinous financially.

I'm pretty sure it's just change one of the cells in the battery pack. They're all modular and the cells lift out. It's probably far more complex than that but in theory the main thing to worry about is shooting 50,000 volts across your heart and exploding your head like a raw egg in a microwave.

It will be interesting to see it done. If you’re doing it yourself don’t forget your rubber gloves and welly boots, (and any other rubber gear that takes your fancy).

It's about methodical testing and documenting, but mostly patience to charge and discharge and document individual parts.

This sounds like a job for you Bear. When can you collect?

It's reasonably definitive that one of the paired cells marked as the #13 set are toast.

The Dr Prius app is pretty cool for battery gubbins.

I had a chat with the conversion specialist I bought it from (it was a part ex) and they've been very very helpful. They're going to have a look at it after the weekend and if it's just a new cell it needs, she'll be made right, balanced and slapped on the bottom and sent on her way.

Meanwhile, as I need a stopgap car, I've just bought something else in eBay because well isn't that the answer to all life's varied challanges.

Pray for Prius lads.

The Prius has gone back to wear it came from (and that's not racist) to have the battery pack taken apart, poked with probes, have a couple of cells replaced and the battery balanced.

It's in fine company. The level of work going into full EV conversions here is absolutely mind blowing. I was shown around a couple of projects and the level of art/engineering/science and creativity is staggering to me. Everything down to switch gear label font is carefully designed and curated. Everything that it's possible to retain is retained. The original starter button and switches start and operate the EV gubbins on this Jaguar. Not only the EV stuff is being done in house, but the interior, the suspension adjustments and the 3d printing for the connector port recesses and probably a load of other stuff I didn't hear about.

I felt a bit guilty for bringing a shit box Prius back for work to sit next to projects with house price build bills, but the response I got was

"We're all about keeping cars on the road. They shouldn't be disposable, so we keep them going"

Can't rate them highly enough.

With a car down and only one car owned, I needed a stop gap to get me to the salt mines and back this week.

Luckily I have an ongoing eBay saved search for ABSOLUTELY SHIT BUT AN HOUR OR LESS AWAY OK.

eBay came up trumps and without fanfare, collection thread or even a shit on the way there, I popped out with the missus this morning and snagged an absolute hotty.

Floor mats are ABSOLUTELY SHIT. The clutch got snagged on the top of the shit dangerous fabric mat so I've already ordered deep rubber trays from china.

For safety reasons.

There's a lot to be said for Chinese floor mats*, I've ordered a set of these for the hearse from a supplier called Wangjianxiangg

Looks gr8 m8! I love mine and it feels about time they went from “too shit for Autoshite” to “just shite enough”.

Since owning one I have noticed a phenomenon- there’s TONS of them on the road around here.  Surely this can only be a good thing.

I'm finding the opposite. Barely see many these days. We saw ONE xsara Picasso on the 2 hour round trip to collect this one. They used to be everywhere. I guess they're the kind of car that gets mistreated and beat on till they're dead.

This one seems solid. Sills have never been poked or welded, which seems unusual for the marque. Even still has the little folding trolley in the boot.

These do look funky and rad.

I haven't seen a Picasso for a while either. Likewise the same class Scenic II has gone the way of the Scenic I.

Basically becoming bonafide Autoshite - now rare and still unloved.

00-era cars are definitely dying out now. Especially turn of the century stuff. 🫤

Give it another 5 to 10 years and they'll all be extincted and carrying a "modern classic car" premium tax like a lot of 80s/90s stuff is now.

Still a couple of Picassos of this vintage operating as private hire cabs locally, which is good going. They're not extinct yet, but certainly fewer and fewer spotted on the roads these days.

My family owned one new the same colour as Jim's between 2001 and 2004; I sneered at it as 'The Hippo' because All Modernz Is Shit Innit. But I can concede now that they were a good practical design, and a better drive than might be expected.

Trolley in the boot is the ultimate winner accessory, though the fold-down picnic trays in the back are surely the most elegant way to consume one's Ginsters and Vimto while en route to Important Business Meetings.

Nicely bought, squire.

The Shitbox Edition Prius had a battery cell replaced, a connector for the control module cleaned up as there was corrosion inside, and a pin replaced on the connector.

Battery is now back to full health (touch wood, hail Mary, fingers crossed, turn around touch the ground etc) and the HYRBRID VOLTS have been put straight into use collecting chip suppers and bags of cans.

At ease in it's modern urban environment.

Always ready to assist in the collection and transportation of a big bag of cans.

Now that the Prius is back to full health, I'll be moving the Picasso stop gap warrior on. All interested parties and gay and/or autistic Roffle fans form an orderly queue in the For Sale section.

Just checking in as your thread got mentioned for something else, I trust the Prius is still fetching bags'o'cans and other life essentials in a dependable and unexciting hybrid fashion since it's battery glow-up?

Hiya Dave.

Yeah it's been smooth sailing since the battery work. I think the mpg is up considerably too but won't know for sure till the next fill up.

It's showing 53.4mpg since that battery was done, which is impressive. It's been no bother at all but I've only done 126miles since.

Are you asking because you're hoping I'm selling it or is it more of a general wellness check?

Posted

Just hoping it's going well mate, because of my own electro-shite proclivities aftermarket/DIY battery repairs are very relevant to my interests.
