What's the mpg like? Don't these use ridiculously little amounts of fuel?

I've got accustomed to ignoring the beeps that German cars love to do. My Z4 inexplicably beeps at me only sometimes when I turn the ignition on to give me a fright. Other times it's perfectly happy with life. Absolutely no indication on what fuss it needs.

I'll let you know when I do the calculations. It's definitely big mpgs but it's still running on the first tank so I don't have solid data till I refill it for the brim to brim accuracy.

Is that going to be like 600 miles in or something so far? 🤣

It's on 563 miles so far but it's had a full tank plus 20 litres and there's still half a tank left.

It's all written down so the maths will work themselves out when I next fill it.

From memory, mine did 52mpg.

And about the same in coolant.

They're noisey low down but seems to be pretty quiet at cruising speed.  Loud round town but once you're in 4th and 5th it's whisper* quiet*

That's a bit of a stretch but I know what you mean 😉

Is your's that ridiculously tall geared you need to be in 2nd gear round town.

Yeah pretty much! They're definitely geared for cruising rather than town diving.

Maybe I should have said it's less noisy the faster you go. That's probably more accurate!

Filled up this morning and the man maths mpgs are indicating 63MPG.

Which is great news. I'm really happy with that.

I should have a drive up next time I need a full tank!

With those diddly little tyres it'll probably be 500 miles up to there?

Coldstream still the cheapest? It's been months since I last had to put fuel in something...

Panda has been relegated to back up car/drive way ornament but was pressed back into use recently.

The breather pipe had always leaked a bit and even I can't fuck up something that easy so decided to change that while it was at the front of the queue (Foreshadowing)

Wrestled the air box off and had a look.

Her main hole is too big.

While I was failing along merrily, I happened to check the oil.

Is oil meant to be this far up the dipstick and is it supposed to smell a bit like petrol?

I wasnt sure so I asked my friends and they said no.

So it's probably got a dodgy injector or two. Would explain the odd and intermittent poor running that's occasionally occurred.

I found I didn't have a sump plug key so settled for pumping out some oil to a less terrifying level.

At least the level is within the indicator area now.

Well the Panda went off to Weardale long ago and I've been using the A2 as a daily without incident since. It's been an absolute reliable and dependable do all car, so we decided to upbadge and remap it.

Took it for a few 0-60s and man maths confirmed that it had shaved several seconds off the best score.

Result.

So I headed home.

Posted

........ Aaaaaaand after about 30 mins driving I lost all boost and thought I must have blown a boost pipe off. Limped home with zero boost like an ABSOLUTE CHUMP.

When I was almost home I tried a key reset (HAVE YOU TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND TURNING IT BACK ON AGAIN) and all boost returned to FULL HEALTH. So it's not a blown off pipe.

The remap must be pushing something slightly out of spec enough to cut boost as a precaution.

Still drivable but not ideal.

The MOT was also due so in true SPIRIT OF THE BLITZ MAKE DO AND MEND GOTTA SAVE THEM ALL fashion, I parked it and decided to bang a bag of cans and start bidding on other shit on eBay.

A2 will have the original map reinstalled and may see an MOT or for sale add yet. It's been a great little nugget. Averaging over 60mpg and never been a bother since that one time it tried to kill me.

So today I will be attempting a 20 mile, 20 toilet, top trumps colectioneering challenge (tm)

The collection police will tell you that this is not possible. I plan to prove them wrong.
