Cool to see your starting work on her right away, even if its just a scrub down, its amazing how well invacars seem to clean up despite most looking like they where dragged out of a coal mine :)

while Sleuthing through the RUMCars forum for all things Model 70, I came across this picture, while the invacar in the picture clearly aint KPL by the fact it has wheel arches and a steering wheel, I do wonder going by the caravan in shot and the fact KPL spent her "last days" as a caravan shunter, if the model 70 front end in the picture was KPLs originally? (sadly the post the picture comes from does not provide any useful info)

attachicon.gifScan_20180429 ( 8).jpg

i think the front end in the picture has been cut a lot further back than KPLs as KPL is cut just before the small hatch and the one in the photo looks to have been cut below the windscreen

I'll just leave the link there unless anyone has any objections. I keep realising I've not got the thing to hand when I need it so having a universally accessible copy is handy.

The wiper is actually one thing that might work electrically...as I don't think that is affected by me hacking stuff out.

That wiper motor works - the problem is the cable being seized in the tube. I've found the other bit of the spindle end (that trapezoidal shaped should have a plate on both front and rear) so will make sure that's sent on its way to you asap.

I feel really bad for how I hacked some of the wiring about now, just at the time I really didn't expect KP to wind up as anything other than a spares source or a major modification base. Plus the loom was pretty well shot anyway...still feel bad!

'KAO' is a Carlisle reg right? Do you know who sold the Metro originally? I wonder if it was John Elliott in Haltwhistle or that funny little Rover dealer in Gilsland. Or Lloyds of Carlisle obvs. Can I ask whereabouts you are?

it was John Elliot 1d45beeddc137b81aef890b8f364d0e8.jpg and I am in Northumberland

I wouldn’t feel bad it was your spares car after all i am unsure if it was the cable being seized as the spindle was completely seized i have some of these as they are the same as on the Reliant

Wow I bet you're right near my old stomping ground. I used to work at Henshaw Garage on the A69 back in the day, are you anywhere near there? (I'm not trying to find you on google maps or owt BTW, just interested in the geography)

I just realised why your Metro is 'talking to me'. When i worked at Henshaw garage back in the day, the owner bought himself a very swish Rover 600, only a year old or so. Its reg was L206KAO, and it had come from John Elliotts too. I knew it was ringing a bell somewhere!

Useful to have identified where another part was originally sourced from!

Only driven a River 100 once, I very briefly had a P plate (P45EST I think) one with the K Series engine... don't remember much about the car, feeling it was very watered down compared to my old Mk I, but remember thinking it was a sweet little engine.

Discovered the day after I got it that there was nothing to weld to to sort it...so it wound up given to a mate who took it banger racing. Apparently it lasted ages! It was free at least so no loss on my part.

A new bonnet has arrived for the Robin to replace the one that flew off on the way home from the NEC however it is wrong as the little ridges do nit line up and the hinges are in different places it may even be the wrong size however we shall see when I actually try to fit it 31f5a23f535bea5f68802bc65a77cf54.jpg in Invacar news we have a wiper fitted i don’t know if it works as I haven’t had a battery on the car yet but as the motor definitely works if the wiring is intact it should 95412774801b6a4a51d011e053bf7a5f.jpg

Well I've been meaning to sign up here in forever, but kept forgetting. Thanks to someone over on another forum I frequent poking me about it recently the subject was forced back into my very brief attention span for long enough to get me to act on the instruction.

I figure that my little varied fleet might bring you lot some amusement...

      So...we've got:

1993 Lada Riva 1.5E Estate (now fuel injected, as I reckon the later cars should have been from the factory...).
      1989 Saab 900i Automatic.
      1987 Skoda 120LX 21st Anniversary Special Edition.
      1985 Sinclair C5.
      2009 Peugeot 107 Verve.

Now getting the photos together has taken me far longer than I'd expected...so you're gonna get a couple of photos of each car for now, and I'll come back with some more information tomorrow when I've got a bit more time...

Firstly...The Lada. Before anyone asks - in response to the single question I get asked about this car: No, it is not for sale. Took me 13 years and my father's inheritance to find the thing.

Yes, it's got the usual rusty wings...Hoping that will be resolved in the next couple of months.

Next, a proper old Saab. One of the very last 8 valve cars apparently, and all the better for it. I've driven two 16v autos and they were horrible - the auto box works sooooo much better with the torque curve of the 8 valve engine. Just wish it had an overdrive for motorway cruising...

Next up a *real* Skoda...back when they put the engine where it belongs, right out the back. In the best possible colour of course...eye-searingly bright orange.

Seat covers have been added since that photo was taken as it suffers from the usual rotting seat cloth problem that affects virtually all Estelles.

Then we have possibly the world's scruffiest Sinclair C5...

Realised when looking for this that I really need to get some more photos of the thing...I use it often enough after all! We have a dog who's half husky, so this is a really good way of getting him some exercise.

Finally - again, I really need to take more photos of - we have the little Pug 107.

Included for the sake of variety even if it's a bit mainstream! First (and probably to be the only) new car I've bought, and has been a cracking little motor and has asked for very little in return for putting up with nearly three years of Oxford-Milton Keynes commuter traffic, before finally escaping that fate when my housemate moved to a new job. Now it doesn't do many miles and is my default car for "when I've managed to break everything else."

I'll fill in some more details tomorrow - I warn you though that I do tend to ramble...

      Orignial post:

so how do I start this post off well...

to cut to the chase I know of a picture that was taken 9 years ago and its a picture of an abandoned invacar and I have been trying to find said invacar for reasons that are probably quite illogical    (also some slight sentimental ones)

      heres the picture in question

I have managed to stalk track down the person who took the photo, and he said that it was by an art studio on fish island bow (which is hipster-central FYI) (the photographer is currently on holiday apparently, but said that when he gets back he will go through his archives and see if he has a reg plate shot)

so the other day I went to fish island and had a good old fashion hunt  (and utterly did my back in) but sadly I was unable to find it despite finding plenty of other chod.

so Im wondering if any of you guys might have any idea where this invacar is or what might of happened to it?

the sentimental reasons why I want to find and save this/get an invacar is because when I was about Age 3 I saw an invacar parked up by the side of the road and it was the the first car that ever stood out to me made me go "WTF is that?" (but in 3 year old words, I didn't learn the middle finger until i was 4 ) to which my mum said "its a car for disabled people" (which 3 year old me took as, "all cars with 3 wheels where built for disabled people" so I also thought for a long time that reliant robins where built for disabled people too...)

the "illogical" reasons are that well I have never owned a car before... and I think an invacar would be a good simple vehicle for me to cut my teeth on so to speak, and then once I got it going I could "daily it" as a small run about, since ironically enough I have a bad back which prevents me from doing much outside of the house otherwise... also owning a car in Central London is a horrible idea but if you must, best it be a small compact car right?   (and also hopefully its cheap to have/run as well...)

also finally its also a case of I Just want to do SOMETHING, my chronic back injury has meant that I have been housebound for the last 5 years or so and I just want to fucking do something... and what better to do then to try and find and save a historically important vehicle thats also proper autoshite  (this also leads to, even if I cant personally save it, I hope that its at least found and persevered by someone here but ideally id like to grab it )

PS while out and about looking for the invacar I came across this yard in fish island which seemed to have some traveller type people mulling around about in, I was hoping to ask one of them if they knew about the invacar since they seemed to of been the sort of person who might know about it sadly I could not find a way into the "compound",I also grabbed this shot since my inner bus person wonders what that coach is? sadly I could not grab a reg plate shot, for those wondering as well the thing with the blue tarp roof looked like a pretty old Lorry but I could not get a good view of it sadly, there where also some cars and broken transits sitting around.

so yeah I hope you all dont mind me making this post I know its a bit far fetched so to speak (the picture WAS taken almost 10 years ago and fish island has been quite heavily redeveloped since then I think)...

but I am stubborn bastard so I hope to find it still

As a sort of Jay Leno on minimum wage and an admitted car addict what should be my next bargain buy? I have a history littered with old mainly British cars and the oil stains on the drive to prove it, however with the days of cheap Triumph and Morris motors over where do I go to get my fix? The time when an Allegro or Vanden Plas could be picked up in the local classified section is long gone and people have now accepted Metros as collectable. Hell I used to be a weirdo for seeing a BRM Rover as desirable and not just an old motor with a tacky interior and a hooker's lipstick. Now I have always thought that the Streetwise was an idea ahead of it's time and I have one as a daily driver, with an MG TF covering the sports car need an old Jag for that pub landlord look, but to get my fix do l go for a City Rover or is that a step too far? I want something from the Firm even if it is an Indian take away and these are yet to go up as modern classic's, so I am thinking a high spec in black with some tasteful alloys. Will the coming Pride of Longbridge include a smattering of CityRovers or are they a step too far and destined to virtual extinction like the Austin Ambassador?

Hadn't seen this in a few years, always seems like I'm watching it for the first time. Thought someone else might appreciate seeing it again.
