Do any of those lorries have proper gearboxes?  When I was looking into doing my HGV I found that all the driving schools round here seem to use robobox wagons.  I was disappointed - half the fun of learning to drive an HGV is doing battle with a 13-speed crash 'box.

Thats because when you take your test in an auto with an HGV you automatically gain the manual ticket too so can drive both.

The semi auto box in that MAN was so laggy. You could quite literally do your weekly shop in Tescos and be back home by the time it changed gear.

I passed my class two back in errrr, feb? March? Can’t remember. I don’t drive for a living though just need to be able to road test them etc. Congrats dude. Those mercs are all auto, but technically it’s a manual gearbox with an auto selector bolted to the side.

Thanks man - yes that MAN was the same. In order to speed up the time between foot down and pull away, build revs up on the handbrake then let the handbrake off and you will pull away

Swindon? See them a lot. They do stand out with the airbrushing.

Well done.

Then Sod’s law first job you get is something with an Eaton TwinSplitter. Chances of you dropping on something like an ERF with an old crash box in it are quite slim though unless you are working for some small outfit like a steel stockholders or a scrapyard. They’d probably not let you loose with it anyway.

It’s horrible, finding a gap in a roundabout and putting your foot down only to have to back off when it doesn’t move forward fast enough lol

Well done!

I really miss driving the buses back at work and really resent the fact I was never able to go forward with getting the test done.

Drove a couple of buses with robotised manual boxes, which without exception drove me absolutely mad because they took so bloody long to shift. Usually set up to change up at about 200rpm above idle for maximum misery and to make pulling out into live traffic as terrifying as possible.
