Hi this is a rushed post as ive got to go to a famliy birthday. Basicly ive been with a m8 down to a scrappy and ive seen a phase 1 renault 19 gts-x with the 1.4 energy engine waiting it's turn to be scrapped. But it seam's too good to scrap. It' bodywork is near A1 with some nice aftermarket alloysfitted. It's a 5dr in met grey with being a top spec it has the yellow front fog's that work too! Colour coded bumpers lecc windows and c/l that all works. Has 120k on the clock starts and runs ok had a brief drive round the yard and clutch /box work great and engine seams ok but looks like it wants a service as the oil was dirty engine had the usual french rattles but nothing that would worry me. Got to phone up in the morning and speak to the gaffer bout price. If it's stupid money i'll pass but i feel i can't let this old motor end it's days there, it's too good for the crusher. Just hoping they haven't sent the logbook of for scrap or its f**king scrappage victim. What do you think and what should i be paying as i asume it has notax or test? Your comments please.

If it's cheap enough then yes, get it. R19's can be quite decent things. If it's the 1.4 Energy check for headgasket failure, otherwise if its not rusty then should be quite a nice tool.GTS-X spec was reasonably plush too and R19s are getting scarce now so definately worth having I'd say!How much? Assuming no tax or test then not much, depends how much you want it I suppose. Maybe £150? Don't really know what to value it at tbh!

sounds interesting, but only about £100 worth of interest IMO.

It's scrap value, unless IMO a First gen 1.6 TSE like the advert. Shame, as they will be the next '16'disagree?

i agreed £50 notes, i hated my 19 it wasnt a good one

I'd have it - although GTS-X wasn't favourite due to the bloody awful interior.I had a J-plate TS which was brilliant. Don't quite think they'll ever be classed in the same league as R16s, but the Mk1s were nice cars. They won top motoring accolade in German press in 1991/2 as the most popular and mst reliable imported car in Germany.Surprisingly that award HASN'T been awarded to any other Renault since then 8)

Should be worth saving if it's £50-£100. If it's more there will be another one along at a decent price eventually, they aren't THAT rare. My personal preference would be a 3-door TR with the 1397cc bulletproof Cleon motor, but hey...Many years ago I worked with a bloke who had a Mk1 19 TSE with the registration number "A19 TSE". Looks like it's still on the road according to the DVLA.

Went down today an spoke to one of the blokes who work's there and he told me that his boss wasn't there so im still in limbo as to weather,A it not been already comdemed by the dvla or B He want's stupid money or he won't sell. Thanks Mr lobster about headhgasket i checked today and it seams ok. Still got quarter of a tank of petrol too. Really hope i can save this one as its a really nice car. All the orignal handbooks are in the boot and found out it has a working alarm! Woops. Really impressed the bloke fitting two k9 micra rims to a k10 with that going off. Bloke i speak to there is going to ask the boss and let me know tomorrow. Fingers crossed that i get some good news.

It was that black one with yellow blue and white stripes? Luverley. From memory these had very heavy clutches too. I believe the 16v was an engine out job when the clutch went which probably killed off a lot of them in cost to repair/value of vehicle stakes. Not sure if this is the case with the normal cars or not?

It does have that interior fitted to it! But i wouldn't mind it. Got to be nicer than the mk2 astra club interior. That was vile. Really want that car so just hope im not in for a big dissapointment in the morro. My brother has a friend who can store it in their garage if i get it. So thats that problem sorted still got to work out how to get it there and pay for it but minor details. Just need to hear the right words tomorrow and i should hopefully be back to some french motoring. Make up for selling my first love. My most reliable an cheapest to run/own car ive ever had a 1986 talbot samba style. C347 KDA are you still out there? I really hope so. Might go in a corner and sob a little now about that. What a sad tosser!

Thanks rootes arrow1725. Well i can only hope it's stashed away somewhere then. An one day we will meet again. :( Many happy memories of that car. Brought it for a £130 with tax an test haggeled the bloke down from £200. Couldn't test drive it or drive it round the corner home as i was only 16 at the time! My mum went to co-op and couldn't get reverse so me an my brother pushed it backwards out the parking space the first time we went out in it. Clutch was very heavy but as my dad said, if you can drive this you can drive anything. And to be fair he was right. Never did replace that clutch etheir as i could never afford it and it never packed up. Went to newquay in that car too for a lads holiday. My brother got drunk one night and thought it would be funny to jump up onto the bonnet an roof. Guess what it f**king wasn't, nob. Thankfully the popup sunroof didn't shatter and amazingly no damage to the panels got to love those flimsy panels. Got stuck in a big jam near truo one day. Got worried as it didn't have a temp gauage but it never complained or let me down that hoilday. Nor in the five years i owened it etheir come to think of it. Got 100mph on the way back too trying to race a 205 xs.The most comfy seats ever with excellent suspension and solid as a rock handbrake my mk1 uno i had after could only dream of. Gave it away free in pratical classics to a guy from derbyshire/yorkshire border when i realised at the time i had no chance of ever getting it the new wings and welding to the inners plus other bits an pieces it needed to help keep it on the road. One day who knows i might own another but it won't ever replace my old faithfull rattle box as i liked to call it. Thanks old friend. :D

Yes - must be saved. R19 is a shite vehicle and will give much joy.I hadn't seen a 19 for absolute YONKS until this morning nursing the BX back to base with some odd LPG fuel system fault I spotted a late type R19 at the end of my street - the sporty version with bonnet vents in the dark blue (though the bonnet was quite patina'd for some reason) - couldn't get a snap as A. I was driving and B. the car was running like a bag of spanners.Got back, ran it on petrol - it ran fine etc. forgot about the R19 I'd seen until spotting this thread then recalled...So, for a Mk1 Shite-idol R19, I say save.

I do like Sambas, in fact I love pretty much all Talbot / Chrysler vehicles!A MkI R19? Get it, what's the worst that can happen? I know of only 1 early R19 where I live. I did get a picture of it, not sure of the spec, just looks like a basic one in silver!

Does a Samba count as a Chrysler/Talbot? It's just a re-badged Peugeot after all.Phase 1 R19s are really rare now, even the phase 2s are irregularly seen. I say go for it, does it have yellow-tinted foglights?

That's like saying does a Cavalier coupe count as a Vauxhall because it's juts a rebadged Opel Manta! :P

Just an update with the renault 19 situation. Had a call from one of the lads down the scrappy and basicly i think this weekend i should hopefully be the owner of a 91 j reg renault 19 gts-x :D Just hope i sell my lancia alloys this weekend to help pay for it as the cavalier badly needs a set of tyres and the uno really needs some bodywork sorting before winter. So buying this won't help. Never mind i'll just happly look at the 19 instead of driving for now as the others need sorting first.

Funnily enough on the way home tonight there was a group of 3 motorbikes in front of me then in front of them was a silver MkI R19 hatch (this was me in my silver R9), must have looked like we were in convoy. I got my phone out ready for a picture at the junction but the way was clear so it carried on before I could get there & it was my turn off. Didn't even see what reg it was but odds on it was either G, H or J (did they start at G or F reg?)

I saw a metallic blue (most common colour?) 19 this morning in St Ives, Cambs. Must have been lower spec as it had orange indicators at the back... (that's about the limit of my knowledge of 19s!).Oh, and I saw a slightly battered convertible for sale in Norfolk. Cripes. A 19 epidemic!

I,ve seen 5 19s today, working for the poxy company i always look out for the Renners when delivery the parts, the gem i keep seeing is an f reg(first year) 3 door in red,pov spec, nice condition though.

Orange indicators at the rear will be a phase 1

Hadn't mentioned this but i have actually owend a phase1 19 before. An funny enough that was a light met blue one. That was a j reg but it was a 1.9 gtd (diesel) 5 dr that was given to my brother by my uncle for free then my brother gave it to me with a knackered headgasket. Had to get a secondhand head then had 12 months trouble free motoring till i needed money to rent a room as i was made homeless so sold it back to my uncle who has passed it on to his sister and as far as i know is still living in exeter. So im no stranger to a 19 and french cars as ive had a talbot samba, peugeot 205 td  an a renault extra van with gaffa tape to hold most of it togther too. Forgot to say yes milford cubicle it has the yellow fogs in working order. :D I think that sold the car to me alone!

I though the top-speccers got smoked rear indicators? I know they facelifted the 19 later.

You didn't like your 205 diesel?

That car was pure  . Most expensive car i ever owend. Paid £650 had it 11 months spent more time off the road than on it as it allways broke down. Thank god i still had the samba as backup then. The amount of cold wet nights with a lamp under the bonnet trying to fix the little bastard went unrewarded as it never lasted more than a week then a new fault would appear! Joy. Even when i sold it the bloody thing it broke down. An i had spent £1000 on repairs. Safe to say i won't be owning a 205 diesel again which is a shame because everyone ive spoken to swears[or do they mean at them?] by them. But i do like 205's just not diesels.

Yes I think you're right, my memory is failing & I assumed they'd been added retrospectively once the fashion came in for all lenses to be smoked!
