What's the point of having a boot that you can't launch your empty sweet wrappers and drinks cans over your shoulder into?

However...

Some will say that 2 yrs ago when I had a heart vs head moment to go for one of these or my Alfa, I'd still be happily motoring away in it if I'd gone with the Galant...

C130-series Laurel one of the best-looking saloons ever? Bonus Belmont action I've just noticed.

Leaving aside the Manta A which preceded it, this Sunny was my first proper saloon.

Not one of mine. One of those silly ones that should be a hatchback but wasn't (and they sold 3- and 5dr hatches alongside this )

And finally, because it's a fine-looking car and I was ferried around in it between the ages of two and four...

Just dug the Escort out the other day to have a closer look. It's gonna need a fair bit of welding so in a few weeks after I've painted my Violet I'll be buying a big load of panels and doing the whole job properly and respraying it. More work than I'd hoped but if and when i come to sell it it should reflect in the value so it's at least worthwhile.Dragged the 510 back out on Wednesday pending and fresh engine install and it's immenent return to the road

'Fraid I'm with Pandamonium and Pete on this one currently, for the family man who needs to do a lorrafetchandcarry you can't beat an estate.

But it wasn't always so, to wit:

All of these appear to be dead according to DVLA with the exception of the Accord (which I repatriated into the UK; the picture was taken back home, but before a UK reg had been allocated), and the gold Opel (in Belfast).

The Senator and Granada haven't been SORN'd but are reputedly being restored, and the Jetta may still be cruising the mean streets of Guernsey yet.

I make that something like 40% of my car history being saloons, so I'm obv. a fan of them.

3 out of the 7 cars I've owned have been saloons (albeit 2 doors), so I guess I am in too.I definitely dont have a problem with saloons, infact I've said many a time I WONT have a 5 door hatch as my own car if it's available in 2/3 or 4 door guise.
