Bubble Micra non-start shock, horror, gnashing of teeth and wailing.

ECU looks like all kinds of fuckery, keys, barrels, locks, speedo, What fucking woe.

As long as its not the bosch system it should last ages

....... Apart fron the dizzy and the solder on the maf ....

Going to invest in a tin of easy start tomorrow and will check each plug in turn as well for a good old big fat spark.

Drench the dizzy with WD40 from all angles and where the HT leads leave it before you go to too much effort removing plugs etc- The ones I have had would just turn over without a hint of firing as if the ecu/immobiliser was duff.

Few squirts and it was golden...until the next time it happened....Rinse and repeat!

No joy on the easy start.

HT leads fitted with a new plug and tested for spark, all happily sparking.

Plugs removed and found to be hugely sooty, utterly black. Blacker than the black hole of Calcutta at night with no moon, lights or anything really.

New plugs that I'd bought anyway were fitted and the car started first time and ran happily. Did I get any thanks, nope. Just some shitty comment about needlessly buying a part (new fuel filter) and a reminder that she said I should fit the plugs instead of describing doom and gloom.

No problem, next time the car is broken you can fuck off and get it sorted by a mechanic, oh, and try using the bloody thing sometimes instead of starting it to just move it 2 feet and back.  Bollocks to it.

Thanks for the ideas folks, appreciated.

It's just started up and moved a few feet? What the hell does she expect? I'm annoyed for you...

At least it was an easy fix. With the new plugs and fuel filter it'll hopefully soldier on for a good while now.

That said, I am probably going to get a spare dizzy for ours when I'm down the scrap yard next.

They are notorious for doing this if you you just start the car and then switch it off.So much so that Nissan used to supply a new piece of loom to the CTS with a resistor in it to make it less sensitive and therefore less likely to overfuel when not warmed up.

Just tell her that the fuel filter was bunged up, causing it to run badly and thus bugger up the plugs. Probably wouldn't know any better. ;)

I got moaned at today when I said the TT needed new tyres in a couple of months. "That car is such a money pit" was the response I got. All cars need tyres replacing at some point FFS.

Too true. Mostly because it's me who pays for the insurance/service/consumables on her car too!

Yet their own cars are not. Odd that.

Ah my wife says that about the shit we own. Then she was speaking to someone at work who said between him and his wife they spend £700 a month on lease payments. which is a second mortgage . How bad would our old crap need to be to get anywhere near that! To be fair tho with me being a mechanical fitter and her a copper she never tells me how to fix things!!

Had it been on a short run before? The reason I ask is a problem I had on both my K11s, when it's cold the ECU overfuels to the extent it soaks the plugs. No problem if the engine gets hot, but if you shut it off it leaves the plugs soaked and it won't restart unless you dry them off.

The solution for this was either a new ECU or once you started it, don't stop it until it's warmed up.

Ma' Micra sometimes had problems with flooding. I used to keep the motor turning over whilst I had my foot to the floor. After a good 1 to 2 minutes of churning it would eventually catch and burst into life. A good run around the block and the battry would be recharged via the alternator and flooding problem was gone.

that would be the problem- Nissan ECUs register a fail to start in this circumstance need to do the "flooded engine" thing with foot to floor and keep churning til it starts- 2.0 primera did it a few times even needed help from jump pack!
