Isn't the VDP a different car though? I always thought the 6-cyl Farinas that they were based on had a totally different shell? I'm probably RONG though

Could be 10 if anyone has proof that Wood & Picket sold minis under their own name....

That raises an interestion question, lots of companies sold minis as XXX mini, do they all count? If they do I guess you can add Downton, Crayford, Buckle, Radford, Broadspeed, S&A, Rob Walker.... and probably a load of others...

Edit: and yes, the W&P was sold as the Wood and Picket Mini

Good Point! I would have to amend to the rules of this magnificent challenge that: The Brands counted, had to be either manufactured by an OEM, or was under license by them. So no Coach-Builders / Tuning Houses. Would that eliminate some of these Mini Marks?... Come on Guys! I'm trying to make sure that Paykan/Hunter wins or tie! :(

VDP and 6/110 are bigger six cylinder cars along with the Austin Westminster. The 4 pot Wolseley is the 16/60

Nope, that list of 12 (+BLMC) IS the OEM brands, and even if you are harsh and remove names that appear twice (but make a new name on the v5) it still has 9.

Don't worry, I think we can all agree that the Paykan is much, much more shite than a Mini - And that's what really matters

Though with my anorak hat on, the Oxford size shell was offered with a straight 6 for the Aussie market

There was also the two seater version with wire wheels and tartan red paint. And a van version called the Sherpa / Freight Rover / LDV etc.

I'd never heard of that one, was it a later version of this http://www.co-oc.org/Riviera.html but with the engine from a sherpa coupe?

A60 Factoids: The first batch of A60s had the A55 MK2 dash fitted with pull buttons rather than flipper ones (I had one 4042 UR)

When radials tyres were first fitted a top braket was fitted to the steering box.

The Riley Riviera I saw was a 4/72 shell and had an MGB motor but I it looks like from the link you could order various upgrades.

A classic British car of yesteryear- the Hillman Hunter-has finaly reached the end of the road after 40 years. Built in Britain during the Sixties-470,000 were produced-the car continued it's life in Iran when knock-down-kit's from Peugeot's Ryton plant in Coventry were sent out to be reassembled as the Paykan. During the eighties after the Iranian revoluvtion, there were problems with the payments, which formed part of a troublesome oil-for-cars barter deal. Popular with taxi-drivers but a bit of a joke with motorists-production in Iran is to end this month as low-cost models take over.

OK! I’m not giving up on my Paykan this easily!!!...

What I really wanted to find out in this challenge was, how many “Marks†one car was sold under, and I meant “Under One Body Silhouetteâ€Â. Facelifts are ok, but no lengthening, shortening, hatch or 2-Door combinations. Therefore I am disqualifying any Wolseley Mini, any 2-Door Avengers, and also any hatch versions of Vauxhall Astra will not be counted.

It’s my Challenge and I’m making up the rules! ;) So, go through your list again…..

That’s right!!! ROOTES STRIKES BACK!!!.......

Rootes were good at badge engineering , The Imp for example , over a 12 year build was available in 37 different versions ( including export models ) over four makes and only three body styles

getting a bit stupid now eh?

124 still sitting at 8 though.

I know! Sorry, but can't blame me for trying, even though its not looking to good for the Paykan/Hunter team! :(

Discount away! Feel free to remove the Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf for having a different boot.

Still makes it WAY more than the arrow series.

You did ask if we knew, it was an open question.

The Mk1 Astra was available in saloon and hatchback form and subsequent models pretty much all did too, even if some were called Belmont.

Wasn't there a Wolseley or Riley version of the mini available somewhere in the world that used the normal rear end?

Also, did anything come of some deal involving the Peykan tooling going for further use in Sudan or was that just a wind-up?

No problem! Keith's your man for any obscure Rover-related info... 8)
