Saving an already scrapped motor ?

Hi all , I have the chance to possibly save a car that has been recently scrapped on the dvla paperwork but has yet to be bridged or raped for parts , it in fact still has mot until February 2019 .... does it lose it mot if already declared scrapped and what would need doing to try and save it fromm the bridge.

Years ago it was just a case of applying for the V5, I suspect there might be more to it now.

Luck on your side, a sympathetic person at the DVLA and the patience to deal with lots of red tape.

 

Essentially, it can't be done. I know of a Ford (Anglia? Pop?) that went through Scrappage but eventually had the COD reversed.

 

I have heard that if the car is exported, and then reimported to the UK then information such as that is lost....

Yes it can be done. Look on the rover 75 forum a chap found 75 tourer production#1 which had had COD issued and it was reversed. No doubt it’s percieved special status helped but the principal is there and it happened.

Phone the DVLA, it’s a random scattergun approach now the local,offices are gone. You may get told several times it’s impossible but keep trying and eventually you will (might?) find someone who can help. We saved my nephews first car from a local scrapyard, once we got through to the right person it was sorted in no time and a new v5 was issued. I don’t think he has any issues insurance wise as is in the process of restoring it. Persistence is the key.

Apply for the V5, CODs are semi regularly reversed as surprise surprise people make mistakes entering details.

The fact you have the car their in one piece shows it hasn't been scrapped.

The hardest thing will be getting it out of the yard it is in.

As far as i'm aware, once a Cod has been issued it's not legal for the yard to sell the chassis.

 

However if you "came about" a car that had been scrapped, you could effectively just re-register it much like registering an import. A few hoops to jump through to get it ratified but not impossible regardless of what the DVLA say.

COD issued in error is an excuse for it to leave the yard but yes you are 100% correct one yard got in a load of trouble with bangers being built from cars that had had cods issued.
