What's weird about the Montego?

look at those rear lights, rare to me

I saw a few of these Montegos in India in 2007 - most had rusted very badly.

I have a thing for shooting brakes - still wondering whether to create one from my XJ81. Resisted so far and saving furiously for one like this.

Jaguar XJ12-based Rapport Forté.

Roofline/pillars of that Chysler Alpine drawing looks very like a Montego Countryman.

Haven't played my ace card yet  I think quite a lot were made but it seems as though there are very few survivors here on in Germany.

Don't like many German cars, but that is one big lump of want!

Also, can anyone remind me who did the XJ40 here? I know it but can't recall...

I think this was an in-house project at Whitley. It was a serious production proposal but got canned at the last minute. Only made the one - a 4.0 [edit again: this is bollocks as unless they swapped the front end for the show, one is a Sovereign or Daimler, and one is a twin headlamp job]. My Jag is about to have some serious bodywork attention - if there is sufficiently much to do, I may see about recreating this. If Lynx is still about, and wifey and bank manager approve, there'll be another one.

edit: Avon did the conversion for the Series III. Not so good imho - quite a few takers though. Conversion cost £6500 in 1981.

The blue one is a V12 and was recently for sale.

Off topic, but this is another in-house one-off - they should have launched it. There would be one in my garage now.

ChinaTom, That isn't Jag's own prototype. The silver Sovereign is, but the one in the group pic is an external conversion by, I fancy, a German company. I just can't recall their name.

WOW! If you remember who the German Co was, let me know. If they still exist they may have another job coming their way.
