Megasquirt & megajolt it?

MS3 required so £600+ by the time you've done plus your time etc, not sure how it would react to being carb'd

I'm assuming it'd be easier than trying to carb it as it must be £600 for a new carb to run an engine that size & you'd still need a manifold made. Then to find a way to make it spark. So megajolt for that as it won't have a dizzy drive etc.

My mate is picking up his new car next weekend so if I want the car I could get it next Saturday.

It only has 72 days ticket but it’s never had an advisory for any rot which is a big bonus and the only advisory last year was central oil leak and is SE spec.

Depending on the age, the gearboxes on these can be a bit of a nightmare to service.

Other than that, great things.

Papa D has one.

If it's a 2002 it's most likely the facelift model, with improved front suspension, 6-speed auto and the more attractive dash. Completely knackered ones go for £300+ on ebay, decent ones still make £800 or more so if he only wants £300 for it I cannot see how you could possibly lose. If I pull my finger out and shift a couple of my other cars I'd have it off you, or would definitely buy a couple of roffle tix at £7.50 each.

It’s a 2003 model apparently with the electric handbrake and I can have it for £350 but he said to anyone else it’s £400 but I think he doesn’t want the grief of selling it.

Here’s some picturespost-9282-0-78013900-1535985039_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-98548300-1535985062_thumb.jpegpost-9282-0-98548300-1535985062_thumb.jpeg

Sorry for the crap upside down pictures

That's stupidly cheap.  Get it purchased, if you don't like it, there are folks on here that would chew your arm off for it.

That is the much improved facelift version as described by Rave. It really is a no-brainer at that price, and I'll have a couple of randoms.

It's appreciated £50 in two days, you'll be a millionaire* by Christmas*.

Seriously though just GIB, I can't see how you can lose out if it's been looked after and isn't rotten. Worst case it has a massive gearbox fault at which point you put it on a Jag forum as spares or repairs and get your money back plus a few drinks.

Holy shit, that's eye-bleach material. Like putting wires and chrome wheelarch trim on a Lambo Countach. Someone deliberately did that.

Maybe they were taking the piss. It looks like something out of Viz.

People have actually bought and fitted these wheels. I used to see one 2004 S-Type which sometimes came to the stables, and those wheels were feckin' shite.

If it's had no advisories for rot it means they've not removed the sill covers yet.

That is, however, the best colour for an S-Type to be.

It looks like my father wants the Jag once he saw the pictures and my mother likes it because it’s got a sunroof so he’s looking at the price of the insurance and if it’s not too bad then he’s going to have it.

His last one was a Brown XJ6 4.2 series one which he paid £50 for back in the early/mid 80s so this will be equivalent Jag chod for him.

I've never really understood how Megasquirt/Megajolt is supposed to work, but clearly many people get good results out of it.

I'm just a bit dubious about trying to get it to work on a CX.

Have some inspiration, they look pretty cool in the dark also!

I'm no expert but it's just an aftermarket ECU you program to suit your car.

You often need to fit trigger wheels etc on older engines, think crank position sensor etc for what they do.

I had A Blue S Type.

2005, 3.0 Auto in SE Spec.

Shat its gearbox, never did it have a failure for rust, but then the sill covers had not been taken off!

Lovely to drive, a bastard when the batteries get a bit weak!

Funny you should say that as my mate was saying the same about this Stype as he was getting all sorts of error codes and this particular Jag was going into limp mode etc a couple of years back and he was told to change the battery and it’s been fine since.

I had a quick glance at it yesterday in the work car park and it’s got a small bit of rot just starting to come through on the back of a rear arch which you can see in the picture if you look closely but apart from that it looks sound but I wouldn’t want to start getting the angle grinder and screwdriver out on a £350 car.

Have you not bought this yet?

Good god man, I paid nearly that for a 320k mile W plate golf that decided to have total brake failure whilst I was towing my trailer tent at the weekend.

Megasquirt & megajolt it?

Megasquirt does fuel and spark now, has for some time.

Speeduino is another low cost way of doing it.

Problem is, the autobox is going to want a controller too, as they have ECU's now too, to boot.

The comedically named Spitronics do a combined ECU and TCU  (Tranmission Control Unit) now I believe.  Rob Judge in Northants (RNJ Motorsport) deals with them and can tune the units.

I'm out of touch on them & never had the interest to learn more. I prefer carbs myself.

I hear that a lot.

I'm building a speeduino.  No idea which of my cars it'll end up on, but I look forward to having more control over what the engine is doing than 4 brass butterflies and some tubes with holes in :)

You're on a forum where owning four road worthy cars is seen as amateur small fry. The advantage of buying even more is that for each additional car that you buy, it's a smaller percentage of the total, thereby seeming to be less of an issue as the numbers grow.

Similarly £300 is nothing for a running example of a car like this, even with 2 months test. It's £5 a day, even if it fails the test, that's like two cups of fancy coffee?

Have we persuaded you yet?

You’ve talked me into it well not me exactly as my father has decided it’s the car for him as he always seems to end up with either a car I’m about to buy or one of my old cars and because I wasn’t sure the price has now dropped down to £300 again and I think if I waited till Friday he would of got paid to take it away lol.

Also it’s nice to be able just to buy a nice straight car from someone you know which is a big bonus without faffing about.

Speeduino won't do it -

Yeh speeduino can do 4x sequential injection but when it comes to 6x cylinders it has to be ran via 3 lots of 2 batch injection which is how the mondeo ecu I'm using atm works

Give us more details of your build, fancy changing a megajolt from TPS to MAP if you are handy with that type of things?

These have got to be a bargain for engine rapage. I always wanted to stick a 2.9 cosworth v6 in my crapi, but of course now they're thin on the ground and expensive. Jaaaag has more power n cheaper. One for the tape measure.

Plus one for speeduio information in another thread. Something I fancy tinkering with on mx5

Posted

As Dodge Rover said these old beasts do get engine raped especially by the MX5 community as apparently the Mk2 MX5 was going to get this engine from the factory but Mazda decided not go ahead with the idea.

My dad gets the car next Thursday now and my mate wanted to pop over tonight and show him all the gadgets and it does have a few and I’ve got to admit it really is a nice looking car it certainly doesn’t look like a £300 car and once he gets it I will try the electric handbrake reset and give it a service but it really does drive spot on and my dad is really over the moon with it I’ve never seen him so impressed with a car and he’s had more than a few motors.

It has a small leak on the sump but I’m not that worried about that as it does give the underside a bit of rust protection and is minimal.

Do it, mates got one. Had a bit of welding and something about the rear bushes going so it sits funny but he loves them.
