Long time lurker, picked this up from a mate believe it's done the rounds on here.

Runs like a clock and only ran in at 284k

Think I might have clocked this one last Monday evening, along the Shore Rd out of Carrick? Too far away to get the plate, but there can't be many metallic red XMs doing the rounds in South East Antrim... look forward to seeing it about! Maybe at one of the shiter get-togethers up at Ballyclare Auctions?

Here's the mortal remains of my old 2.5 estate getting a fitting send-off a few years back. I'd have another XM like a shot - only maybe one that's not so rotten.

Thanks for sharing the pics, and good to have you on board!

They really are bloody fantastic things to look at. And I quite liked driving mine too. Welcome. Good to see another owner of that one on here.

Lovely! I do really miss mine, although I don't miss not being able to afford the petrol when we moved further away from my work!

Posted

Lovely things, and yours looks great. I really enjoyed having mine but it was just entirely the wrong car for my needs and budget at the time :(

They are, aren't they? As only the French know how. And it starred in Ronin.

Does anyone know why Citroen went for the false quarterlight pillar in the front doors? It made the Xm look a bit like a Mk.7 Buick LeSabre

I don't think a full sheet of glass the shape and size of the door frame would wind down into the body of the door.

Dunno, the glass section that winds down seems to follow exactly the same curvature as the fixed section.

Still want a nice early XM. They don't often come up for sale now....would make a nice partner to my (damaged aghhhh) 605 really. Those moon disc wheels are styling perfection.

Anyone any use for the silver xm seen on the trailer above? Really late 2000 2.5 td vsx auto. Suspected timing belt snapped and needs a bit of recomissioning. Can't find it in my heart to scrap it but tight for storage.

Swapped the rare 2nd rear screen from the silver one to the maroon xm. Proper hard on material...ca40228160fddef9d012dc19438c638b.jpgc86a11b771430cde9442496a159aed6a.jpg

Some of the other tat I have about me at the minute.. Starlet 1.3 Auto and an Auto C5 Exclusive 2.2 HDI. I really rate the C5, for a sub 500 quid motor it has everything a current 18 car has in exclusive trim.0477df562406cfc4dc55648d8793184e.jpg3fae6b58a137ef3504a1a73749d78cc9.jpg

Have they got some sort of giant speaker mounted in there that would get in the way of a full length window and lifter mechanism?

Will do fella, only over visiting the folks for a week or so though. You from Whitehead originally like? You have no idea how many crazy and outrageous memories I have of that scout hut opposite you. In fact, from everywhere round there ha ha.

Shame we didn’t bring the Xantia across this time....

Not pulled an XM door apart, but if you look at one sideways on it doesn't look like it will fit, or if it did fit, would take up so much of the internal space in the door that nothing else would fit in there.

Either that, or it's some odd attempt by Citroen to allow you to have the window open and keep buffeting to a minimum.

This, I think.

Anyway, I'm just going to sit here and weep gently for a while.

The only things I have left of my two XMs are the single-spoke wheel and the 'aero' wheel covers from the '90.  I had a garage full of spares but those went to Stinkwheel, Lankytim and others who happily could actually make use of them.

Posted

...and some of those now reside in my garage of hoarded shite-parts, thanks to Lankytim's generosity and my gullibility.

Weep not.

Oh, and I think the real purpose of the quarter lights in S1 XMs was the automotive equivalent of the tiny piece of crap in any cordon bleu cookery that makes it perfect* I.e. the quarter light/ frame juxtaposition beautifully obscures the view in the n/s door mirror in RHD cars, so much so that the S2 got wider mirrors to overcome it.

You gotta love Frog design.

I just find it makes a great job of blocking fresh air coming in with the window down. On a warm day I really wish mine had Aircon as it gets so bloody warm inside even with the windows down

Posted

Many thanks to the fellow shiter who left this under my wiper

No worries boyo! I had zero time to arrange any hook ups this visit and was only flying through W’head today en route to collect the young ‘un etc. It’s been a hectic trip to be honest. Maybe next time eh? Glad there’s a a shitey colleague in Whitehead. ;)
