This thread is madness, Dez, good luck with the car, I think it’s time everyone just stepped away now for a while as it’s getting silly.

"and lo, it was said, that the thread returned to the discussion of invacars, mobility scooters, and other such contraptions, and all was well in the world of autoshite".

He is.  He's quite frankly Spectacular at manipulating the DVLA and various other government systems and knows them better than the people who operate them.  When it comes to getting my camper lorry registered, I will be very much looking to him for some advice (and taking it!) as he knows WAY more than I could ever know about the system.

But in that same vein, it's reasonable for me to offer 30+ years of driving experience to him in relation to becoming more personally mobile.  I would not wish to see him injured in an entirely forseeable crash.  The same has been done by various other members, in their own unique way.  Which is not bullying, it's part of the fun of this forum.

If you had actually read around the thread for a while and gotten the hang of it, then you'd understand this.  As it is, you've come in all guns blazing and made a complete idiot of yourself.

Totally agree with your first paragraph about Dez and the DVLA, spot on!  As for the rest, I am well educated and read, a lot!  My understanding of language is very very good and have read this thread since 'LondonGate' for want of a better phrase started......

I know and totally understand what I've read...... It's been from everything from virtually feeling as though the poor bloke never should have bought it to he needs a frontal robot- put every which way possible..... Anyone reading anything Dez writes can see he's a sensitive soul, and maybe should err on the side of caution when responding...... Some of the replies have been downright vicious.

One thing can't be disputed, when he does drive/ride his Invacar wherever he does it, it will be legal, taxed, licenced and insured, anything after that will be down to him!

some of the claims being made by others I do feel are a bit outlandish

I may offer that observation of some of your recent claims as well.  We can agree to disagree, that's what grownups often do.

It's easy to say I'm being antagonistic; but actually all I'm trying to get you to do is critically evaluate and re-evaluate things.  But it doesn't seem that you can, despite clearly having immense intelligence.  Easy to label me as 'trouble' and disregard what I say - harder to understand the nuance. Uncomfortable to accept that I might have a point.

I'm frequently impressed and amazed at your thirst for knowledge, the ability to retain it and then use it later.  I wish I could do that.  You should be proud.  But repeating stuff you read elsewhere doesn't make you right.  Repeating it over and over doesn't make it right.

Naturally,  you're keen to keep Talbot on-side.  He's one of the groovy gang, I'm not.  That's fine.  But both of us think you're wrong, buddy.

Just understand that nobody here wants a repeat of Alvis vs The North Sea.  Everything I write (and everything I read) comes from a good place.  I think you take umbrage with it because it doesn't fit your narrative.

Best of luck.  By Christ, you will need it.

That is not in dispute.  What I (and many others) have issue with is that he plans and wants to drive it significant distances and rely on it as an only vehicle.  As in from London up to Milton Keynes.  To do this would be insanity.

What is needed is Literally Any Other Sensible Car so that road experience can be gained, and distances can be traveled in relative ease.  If an Invacar wants to be kept as an interesting curio, then I doubt anyone would have any issue with that at all.

Can you see that this is not bullying or antagonistic.. it's the real world, and it's sound and sensible advice for someone just starting out on a driving career.

And now that you've realised what is being said, nice to see you've calmed down somewhat.  Keep going that way please, as you made a prize idiot of yourself earlier.

@OhNoWhatHaveIDone I do very much appreciate the show of support for my cause, however I will say that, perhaps getting into a big argument with other members of this forum is not a great idea and probably will just incentivise them even further

I very much get the frustrations and I very much appreciate that you understand mine, but one has to be sure not to stoop down to their level so to speak, be the better person and while they are the ones shouting and raving, just be calm and collected about it :)

its pretty clear that no matter what you or I say or do, they are not going to listen anyhow

a prime example of this is how, while I get criticised for not responding, but yet when I do take my time out to respond and I always make sure to respond adequately and in detail for the benefit of all involved, I then get antagonised for that instead, as seen here for example when I took out my time to explain something and in response I got

one does have to realise that anything and everything you do say, will be used against you, which is generally why I dont bother responding, because I aint got time to deal with antagonistic people on the internet

so I certainly dont mind you or others taking on these people (and I appreciate all those that do call them out on it) if you so desire, but I do ask to please keep it civil, even if they dont :) (also Talbot genuinely is a nice bloke who I have had the pleasure of meeting at the FoD a few times, but he does not suffer fools gladly so I would recommend that one does not get arsey with him! so please dont pick your battles with him, if you must pick your battles, do it with all the genuinely antagonistic people floating around)

Cheers for coming back to me Dez.... I

One thing I can't stand is good folk being picked on and I've never been shy to stick my head above the parapet!  With Talbot, I too don't suffer fools gladly, so we can either work together or against each other....his call, let me know.

If people are civil with me, I am with them, I give an inch, if they take a mile, it's open season, offend or please.....I'm too old to care otherwise Dez   all the best  Fred !

I think what would be wrong would be not helping an inexperienced driver understand the potential consequences of their choice of vehicle.

Some issues with that.....

1, it's a free country (sort of)

2, He's already bought it

3, He's already spent out on it

4, it's not China

5, it's none of your business in reality

1: No-one is being "picked on" here.  Again, if you'd read around the forum before shouting and screaming, you'd have realised that.

2: No, it's not "my call".  It's up to you to integrate yourself into an existing community.  Again, read about a bit and work out if you think you'd be ok here.  If not, you can always leave.

If you had walked into a pub with the sort of attitude you've exhibited over the last few pages, you would have been exiting via a window.

1. Yes, so people can give advice

2. Nobody is saying he shouldn't keep it

3. See above

4. Bit racist, no?

5. This is a discussion forum, for discussing things.

Seriously, you're getting worked up about nothing, and you're being a right cunt tbh.

Seriously. Step away from the thread, maybe check out some of the other excellent threads available?

And maybe this book although if you've read as much as you say no doubt you've already done so, albeit to little or no benefit.

In that case he got Simon Pegg to play him on the silver screen, so he's done alright.

We might have to agree to disagree on this one.... I'm up North but I would guess London to MK is 120 miles round trip?    It's a lot for an Invacar however, with suitable mods, electronic ignition, etc, maybe a servo on the brakes etc, it could be feasible.....but given the good transport links and train season tickets and parking fees, I would not personally.    On the flip side, my dai!y driver at the minute, 30 miles  each day is a 1951, sidevalve Hillman Minx!

I do know what I've read and seen and has been said to me over time, and from what I've been told by Dez, like you, I take no crap, if it's fight or flight, I fight, that does not make me an idiot.

An attitude for defending myself?  Really. Are you that pussy whipped?  I offered an olive branch and you tried to beat me with it, well screw you.

Give it a rest, the Northern Hardman cuts no ice here and the more you mention it the less credibility you have. The real hardmen do not repeatedly boast about it on an obscure car forum.

You've proved that you're an idiot in other ways however.

I would like to just quickly make it clear, that @Talbot I never thought at any point you have been posting with the intention of being antagonstic or a bully towards me, it is one of the reasons that I do take my time out to respond to your concerns and criticisms, because, even tho I think some of them might be based on incorrect 1970's media frenzy information, I know that you mean well by them, and its why I try to explain, that I agree, that my driving experiance is nothing compared to yours and that a Model 70 is not crash worthy compared to a modern car

but I do want to try and show/say that its not as bad as the picture currently being painted might suggest :)

because some of the claims being made by others I do feel are a bit outlandish and there are those, who are just posting for the sake of being antagonistic

Keep your dream alive Dez (?) and keep posting.

You are not going to die puttering round north London in a turquoise car. I can tell you. I've seen death close up - that's not how we go.

Sure  risk assess this - fire extinguishers on the vehicle, maybe a fuel cut out if it rolls - make sure the filler won't spill, decent seat belt and see the seat is optimum - not sure it's got hazards on it certainly and maybe a beacon for the roof in the event of a full stop. Bit of experience under your belt - might be a good idea to get it on a track day or practice area.

No one should be afraid to die when its time - it's what we all do - but if you lose yr dreams that's much worse. We are gifted the sun and the moon and our dreams when we are born - that's all there is and some time here. Use it having fun.

Live fast - die old.

Lot of people don't make it - but turquoise cars aren't going to be the reason.

(And if anyone wants to be clever about what I've written - don't bother I will mute your profile)
