Collection thread, from Jag to VAG, how the mighty* have fallen!

Well that was eventful.

Yes the Octavia that Saabnut posted.

No tow bar.

Was a bit of a war getting it away due to no electricity and snapping the bonnet release cable!

Now tucked up in Forfar for a bit.

Needs a good look over and some electric when I have the bonnet open!

Malc was an absolute legend Infinity/10 for seller.

How very bargainius. I look forward to its first knockhill outing!

Right, home and hands washed.

Got near to the destination and phone signal was poor, eventually found it after the local postie told me where it was. I had farmtrack on the left, it was on the right...

Said hello, I saw the car was a car and was offered a brew while I looked over it, I declined both and handed over the money.

Paperwork was filled in and we jump started it.

I got in to drive off and it just died.

I pulled the bonnet release cable and it came too far with not enough resistance, bollocks.

Malc offered a tow start so I was dragged along the lane to see if it would go, it wouldn't, there was that little electric.

You cannot get to the bonnet release easily, you have to go from underneath says the internet after we got some signal.

There are no good places (except under the bonnet) to supply electric!

We took off one side of the boot trim, the bit near the CD changer ;) as there is a 12V power socket there in the boot. Malc got some wire and crimps and we fed 12V from the spare battery I brought (and should have bloody fitted) into the car from there. The lights in the doors lit up quite brightly now so we had another go at a tow start, it worked :)

So now I am in a car that hasn't been on the road for over 18 months with not enough electric to even allow a tow start without the help of a botched together solution* in the boot.

I asked Malc if I could borrow his towrope as I don't have one, he agreed so now I was confident I would make it somewhere.

Set off and it is really sluggish and doesn't want to rev over 3,000.

I am dancing on the pedals like I'm driving the Morris Minor when it just wants to stall.

We make it to the A90, what can possibly go wrong, and join in a suitable gap. Chuck is following and gets an angry flash of lights from someone behind so I gave them a stare when they went passed :)

Up to 60, seems ok, a little hesitant at times and all is well.

I decide that going to the MOT would be insane so come off at Forfar and put the car in the workshop.

Phone Malc to let him know I'm not dead and cancel the MOT due to lack of electric!

Think that is all, off to buy a cable now or I know I will just shut the bonnet again after I have got it open!

Top snaffling..... even from here it was a seriously tempting bargain. I wasn't going to rely on getting it out of the country without issue though so couldn't risk jumping on it.

I haven't seen a DIBS yet - So DIBS!!!!!

I thought the DIBS might come after I got it working!

I shall see what needs done to get the MOT and go from there.

malc said the timing belt was the first thing done when he got it.

Haldex (if that is right) has been serviced by him.

Should be great for chucking the dogs in the boot when sorted.

Not terrified of getting the inside dirty and the dogs can come along too!

I wouldn't put them in the Jag at all, and there was a no eating rule too, in the car obviously...

Dodgy VAG bonnet handles?

Yeah don't remind me when the time the cable came detached.

From here onwards:

This is the solution I ended up on:

Nearly 6 hours to get that flipping bonnet open again. When you get the bonnet open, make sure you take off the security cover off the front just in case!
